3 days later, are you more/less impressed with the win over florida?

We are no lower than 6th on any AP voter's ballot.
More AP voters have us at #1 than they do #6.

Where they have us ranked after this week's games is going to tell us a lot.

#3 Penn St plays #6 Oregon
#4 LSU plays @ #13 Ole Miss
#5 UGA plays #17 Alabama

And if for some reason ND loses at Arkansas, it'll give the media an opening to bash us over our schedule.
this.... 2-6 in AP were essentially interchangeable.
how we come out of this Saturday's slate will be telling

we completely and utterly dominated a rival on National TV, how could anyone not be happy???

I'm more than pleased and was beyond impressed by our defense and the way they just flat out FLY around the field.

I'm more impressed. I remember being heated during the game over the lack of a passing attack. This isnt to say that im letting the offense off the hook per se, but i didn't fully comprehend how dominant our defense played in the moment. 2.3 whatever blocking grade for UF, 141 yards allowed compared to 366 that LSU allowed. Really ******* impressive defense.

Saban's recipe early in his success at Alabama struck me as build the trenches, build the defense, be able to pound the ball, and if you get a good quarterback, fine. Saban said we are the most complete team he has seen this year. I'm good with that, and I'm good with what I've seen so far.

i'll say this, i'm shocked by the positivity we're getting from most media outlets ... i was sure they'd murder beck for his performance, but the defense has been the talk of the town
Winning when you're not at your best is impressive. The only thing that stopped it from being a rout earlier was a bad call. Pick the game up at 20-0 and lets see how much more impressed you are. Probably a 35-0 win.

I’m happy. It was a weird game tho. Our OLine should dominate against Florida’s 2nd stringers.

Offensively I don’t know what Florida is. The weather obviously sucked which impacts other teams passing game…. And I was never one who bought the Lagway hype as a passer.

But wtf is Napier doing? Is Lagway hurt? I know we hammered Brown the week before but considering the weather and complete lack of pass game you’d think they’d look to utilize Lagway size and athleticism a little more. If that’s all they could get from him he should’ve been benched.

So while our D, especially line looked great. There is a part that feels like Lagway/Billy played a role in their own demise. Napier should’ve hired an OC

lagway is TRASH ... no matter where he goes or the system ... he's not a good player

I don’t feel any different. We did exactly what I thought we should do. That said, still opportunity to get better with clean up of mental errors and a llittle more intentionality with play calling throughout the game. Every game we hit a patch where our playcalling doesn’t seem to align with the moment. Obviously that is such a feel aspect, but if it ain’t broke and the weather conditions aren’t conducive, you don’t always have to pass to pass. Mix up variations of run types. The RB in the flat was a good call, need more of that instead of forcing certain passes into the defense teeth.

Having the ability to grind them down left me more impressed than if Beck had 300 yards. We've played, easily, the two best defenses we'll see all year, and were able to run the ball. That bodes well for the remainder of the season.

Winning is the only goal now, we're ranked high enough that we don't need style points.

0/13 3rd down conversion by our defense.
Read it again.
And again.

If you're not impressed by that, you don't know football. Pick apart if you'd like - Lagway stinks, G5 Billy is a hack, their offense sucks, etc.... Fact remains, they did not convert a single 3rd down against us all night. Not one. Now, remember what our defense looked like last year against VT, Cal, Cuse, GT, Iowa State, etc. Go read that 0/13 stat again and tell me you're not impressed.

The same. I thought we dominated the game, and I thought the same on rewatch.

I think though a few days after now that I've started looking big picture, I'm even more optimistic on the season, and not just because we're 4-0.

I know this is sacrilegious to say about a Miami team, but I always thought we'd be better later in the year than we were early on, simply because, by far, my main concern on the offense was Beck's lack of reps in the off-season. I thought if we could skate by the first 4 games at 4-0, or even 3-1, we'd be sitting pretty because we now have 2 bye weeks in the next 3 weekends, and once we get to that Louisville game, we'd have been practicing actual football for well over 2 months. I expect the cohesion between Beck, Dawson, and the receivers to continue to grow.

Essentially, I expected our offense to be as bad as it is going to be in the beginning of the year, and for it to show steady improvement. And we weren't always pretty on that side, but we got what we needed from the defense, the O-line is beyond as advertised, and we're #2 in the country and now have the 3rd best odds of any team to make the playoff.

I still won't believe we're going undefeated until we do, simply because it's incredibly hard to do so, but at this point, it really wouldn't shock me at all. We'll likely be favored by at least a TD against SMU and Louisville, and probably double-digits in every other game.

So, this is best-case scenario for me, again not just because we're 4-0. But more that we are 4-0 playing what i feel will be the "worst" offense we'll play all year.

Stay healthy, keep that fire on the defensive side, and if we can start to generate a little more offense and get some bigger leads in games where teams are thrust into a full-pass mode, this thing can be special.

When I initially watched the game, I was disappointed the game was so close until the end.

After a few days reflection I can definitively say we kicked their ***. Here’s the thing- we can complain about Miami not opening up the offense and shooting itself in the **** in the first half. But the gameplan (and it was a good one) was to exhaust the UF DL by leaning on them with the run game. It was working to perfection and Miami finally broke them in the 3rd quarter.

4th and short, the FL DL was demoralized after getting bullied for the first two quarters. Marty Brown runs into a pile, the OL pushes the pile like it was doing all game, and then Brown breaks free for a TD. That was game over. 20-0 with a quarter and a half still to play. Miami had obliterated UF, barely passing the ball. Napier would need to start thinking of who he would rest for next weeks game against Texas. no point losing more players when it was obvious UF was finished.

Except it wasn’t. In one of the worst calls you will ever seen in a game (not being a Canes homer- this is the consensus across cfb), the refs blew the play dead. As often happens when a TD gets called back, the defense felt the momentum swing. Miami fans and players feel that little bit of vomit coming up- the SEC refs are not going to let us win this game. There are bad whistles because a ref missed something (excusable) and then whistles out of the blue where the most plausible explanation is the refs were making sure UF stayed in the game. UF end up forcing UM to punt, they end up scoring on their next possession, then Beck makes a mistake and throws a pick, and suddenly we are looking at UF taking the lead.

Miami was staring into the abyss with the blown call, UFs TD drive ,and then the INT. But Miami didn’t blink. The defense stopped UF on a short field, and then Miami went back to the gameplan and bullied UF to the tune of another two TDs.

This game, despite its ugliness, made me more of a believer that this is our year.

I’ll be honest, most national people really aren’t concerned with Beck. Off day, monsoon, and good Florida D. The consensus was not good day, not a bad one. Most were more impressed with Miami proving they can win in other ways and be balanced.
