25 best teams not to win the National Championship...

  1. 86 Miami
  2. 88 Miami
  3. 92 Miami
  4. 00 Miami
  5. 02 Miami
No way should the 92 canes be ahead of either 00 or 02 canes. Their OL was not very good, and they got physically manhandled by Bama. They were a finesse team in 92 that could have lost more games had it not been for a good gameday coach in Erickson who schemed around the poor OL.

Erickson screwed up the OL recruiting at Miami. He got lucky in 1989 and 1991 that he still had some JJ holdovers (like Searcy), but it was going downhill.

No....they were Physically Manhandled because of the wrong offensive scheme to go up against AAs Curry and Copeland....Lol at protecting (a Slothfoot to begin with) Torretta...with a 5'9 170lb RB Conley...(thats if he wasn't split out Wide by the Snap) with a plethora of other RBs....Stupid gameplan...
and the effects of JJs kids all gone, coupled with atrocious recruiting, was the nail in the coffin...By 1993...the CFB world had caught up with Ericksons so called brilliance...

Conley didnt play for canes in 92. The RBs that year were donnell bennett and Stephen McGuire. Torretta had no help from the OL that year and he got very confused by bama's mixing up coverages and strong D which is why he threw so many picks that game. Also miami lost Rusty Medearis on the DL earlier in year so that didnt help either.

They lost Rusty in the Bowl game a yr earlier....I meant Bennett, not Conley....It was still a **** Poor gameplan...not to mention the players out partying till 4 a.m...with no Curfew whatsoever....

Really? LSU was scoring at will late in the season and had maybe the best offensive season in the history of college football. I think they rout them if they play.
OSU has the DB talent to make it almost interesting. They still lose but Clemson didn’t have the DBs for that game. They got exposed man

LSU exposed every back 7, with that much time off for Brady to scheme OSU would have been routed as well IMO. We will never know for sure though because OSU could not beat Clemson so really it's not even a plausible scenario

I absolutely agree that 2002 is the 'weakest' of the three in question. I still think if 2000 Canes in the form they were in at the end of the season somehow faced off with our 01 title team 10 times that they'd likely split them. That team was absolutely on fire! They would have blown OU out by 30+.
The 01 team wouldn't have been quite as good as they were if they had won the '00 title. Iron sharpens iron, and getting ****ed in '00 made them know that in 2001, their only choice was to win 'em all or regret it the rest of their lives.

This is true but if Kipp Vickers was healthy it may have been a different story. There must have been other injuries because by the Sugar Bowl were down to Carlos Etheredge at OT.

2002 team had leadership and discipline problems. Yes, they lost Ed Reed and few others but the roster was still loaded. Wasn’t this the team with 6 first round picks? Coker, to his credit, laid off the 2001 team with the roster on a mission after being snubbed 2000. He should have recognized the issues in 2002, but that’s not his way. Poor performances against FSU, West Virginia, and Rutgers were the direct result of lack of player accountability than anything else.
