Their average recruit ranking got a big bump it was in the high 88-89 range

I know they’ll get theirs but I was kind of shocked but now it’s up to a better level. Half their commits are 3 stars

ALOT of gms and coaches have different strategies, I was surprised to see soo much how much of texas projected starters were transfers. OSU turned over 50 players off their roster and arent that high either, they may be looking at Indiana and saying they will save money for portal proven players, there are soo many teams that we will see all type of strategies..

Way too many lines in the sand about what’s better, portal vs recruiting “sustainability” etc

Truth is it seems to change literally in season. You gotta do both. You gotta know when to strike when the chance is there etc

As much as I’ve bashed Mario in the past I think we are doing as good a job as anyone balancing this
 
Randle abive Henderson now huh…. Said I’d have targeted him above Henderson. But I liked the value of him vs what I’d expect Henderson to have costed. Now that prob won’t be the case but just further reason I think we should prioritize safety above Henderson now

There have been a few GMs interviewed in offseason who touch on this type of stuff, I never know where to put CFB based offseason discussion if its not canes but another thing that comes to mind is value.. When we were ahead of curve on NIL portal and people were losing their mind we gave Cam Ward reported 1 Mil, after spring I laughed at rival friends like that was a bargain (we still getting SIIIICK return on that cheap), CBB lost their mind when we gave Nijel Pack 400k, we went to final four and now that wont even get a bench player.. :ibis-roflmao-sm3:

The portal prices might have skyrocketed soo much that stockpiling high end high school talent makes more sense, develop them and retain that roster, fill in with portal guys, we zig when everyone zags..

Buuuut if age becomes determining factor of winning championship, hmmmm.. Indiana had like a 20% blue ship ratio or something never seen before, wtffffff..

Well, while we may add more highly-ranked guys, other programs will also do the same. So our ranking may go up, down, or stay the same.

But I'm not that concerned with our ranking in recruiting. If Mario gets a fair number of the players he's after, that's what's important.

Wouldn't have had UCLA,Wisky, and Kentucky ahead of OSU on my bingo card, but I'm sure that will resolve itself.

I think for major programs it needs to be a supplemental thing. A school like Oklahoma State will be much better served attacking the portal every offseason than say Texas would.

I like Mario’s approach. One, maybe a two year rental guy as a stop gap until the younger guys are ready. Like we didn’t need Seaton. Would it have helped? Absolutely. But it doesn’t cripple the program not landing him. Whereas a guy like Wilson takes our defense from potentially decent to a formidable force. Same with the WRs. Barkate is a good pick up. Not getting Barkate wouldn’t have ruined our season.

We dont know about Seaton til we actually play playoff level teams.. Spending a million extra dollars will look realllllllll cheap if we cant block Simmons for Texas come playoff time..

Ideally imo we finish with:

EDGE - DJ Jacobs
S - Ta'Shawn Poole and Andre Hyppolite

WR - 1 of Eli Woodard, Julius Jones, or Jaden Upshaw. If we miss on those 3 we need to get a late riser or at min a quality developmental guy. Maybe Ethan Kimmie like @Memnon said... or like Lawrence Britt?
TE - Anthony Cartwright.... Otherwise late riser, maybe try to flip someone like Ben Kolar...
RB - Personally think we need another RB, maybe a late riser.
OT - Must land an additional OT imo. Sam-Epelle is probably the guy we are best in it for thats highly rated. I'd like to try to flip Jake Hildebrand or Jakari Lipsey... but a more developmental guy like is minimum. Like a Niko Kampas, trying to flip Sidney Rouleau, Miller Westfield... idk someone...

i dont believe it's solely ESPN's, though i believe they are part of the UC Report camps.
