Quick thoughts:
  • 2008...this is the Spaceballs Ludicrous Speed of recruiting. We signed nine linebackers. And unsurprisingly, brought in none the following year
  • Miami only signed two blue-chip linebackers between 2017 and 2020
  • Since 2021, Miami has brought in at least one blue-chip linebacker with each signing class

How were our two "linebacker guru" coaches Shannon/Diaz so bad at signing quality linebackers? I guess Shannon did alright in 2008, but when you sign 9 linebackers a couple of them better contribute.

Aldarius Hayes isn’t on the team and wasn’t on the team last season either.

Somehow manny was worse than Shannon, who signed 9 linebackers in 08 but missed out on Khalil Mack and Lavonte David lmao.

Manny Diaz is the laziest mf ever. Even in 2021, his last recruiting class here, he signs Troutman who was a low undersized 3* who processed out immediately, and two legacies in Jaquan Johnson’s little brother and Chase Smith.

They (Golden/Dorito) were always going to fail here; however, the only counterfactual i will posit is Eddie Johnson Juwon Young, Josh Witt, Devante Bond, Gionni Paul, Jermaine Grace, AQM (for when we were a 3-4 team), Gabe Terry, and Alex Figueroa— all had flashes or actuallly flourished. Bond and Witt never got started here altogether for different reasons; concussions and academically.

I mean—my lord. What a list. Gionni Paul was 2x all 1st team PAC-12 at Utah! Our defense could’ve looked a lot less pathetic….

Still believe Darrion Owens has a better career under better circumstances. Golden and Dorito still passed on guys we should’ve had like Skai Moore or whoever else.

However, they did bring in some interesting underrated talent who didn’t make it to the end of their tenures.

Diaz is better with simplifying scheme, creating negative plays & yes, turnovers, and halftime adjustments. However, Golden/Dorito had him beat at evaluation, development, CARE, work ethic, actually having a criteria, stopping the run, teaching fundamentals, and not being a total *** clown. In that respect, i can see why golden was able to bounce around the NFL and Notre Dame after his time here. Too young to remember much about Shannon when he was actually succeeding prior to the 21st century.

Neither should’ve been at miami but that’s neither here nor there anymore. Diaz getting extended by DUke is hilarious. If he didn’t have NIL he’d be cooked; and likely is going to cook their program in the upcoming years.
