2027 Men's Basketball Recruiting



Playing with Cayden Daughtry will definitely help your recruitment. The Florida Rebels team is on another level.
 
I may not speak for everyone but I wish this thread was for recruiting only, not so much highlights of the summer circuits of the dudes we are after. Would like a separate thread for that. Viewing this thread I have no idea who we are on besides the daughtry kid whose local

Yeah, but it's also such a weird comparison. The US is just SO MUCH LARGER, population-wise, than any individual European country.

If you actually took true European countries (excluding Russia and Turkey, which are in both Europe and Asia) and then you ignored UK and Ireland (do they even PLAY basketball there?), you'd have a pretty solid European all-star team at every age level. And the population base would be similar to what the US has, so it would make for a better apples-to-apples comparison.

I'd imagine that a "California-only" or a "Texas-only" team would lose to a bunch of individual European countries.

I believe that the Euro teams still have better development and coaching, but the USA is just out-talenting everyone else with the sheer size of our country, and the fact that basketball, as a youth sport, is similar to soccer in the rest of the world. A sport that does not require a lot of money for equipment and can be played in schoolyards and parks without a lot of referee-supervision.

Just watch some of these World Cup bio pieces on players who grew up in poverty, and just dribbled the ball around all day in the streets or in patchy grassy areas...

That’s fair. “Talent” is a slippery slope in winning basketball. I would say the difference between us and everyone else is - at 17 our kids have so much more game experience. It’s hard to lose when the rest of the world doesn’t emphasize playing games. At 19 that we still have A LOT more game experience but the competition is getting tougher. At the Olympic level, I think talent is only a part of the equation. I think having a core or a cohesive team is just as important.

As far as who does it better, we don’t really do it - we just play. Even at the college level it’s about winning here. Caleb Wilson shot 29% from three at Carolina. He said it wasn’t a part of his job to shoot threes there. If UNC was focused on developing him for the NBA, there would have been emphasis on his 3 point shooting. But he was there to win games, not develop. Now look at every European player drafted and look at their minutes played last season - it’s not a lot - they were being developed for nothing but the pro game.

I prefer our way for exactly what you are eluding to - I don’t want a system that just becomes rich kids paying to get “developed.” I think our way also keeps the game physical and less technical.
