UCLA desperate for a centerpiece after missing on Tounde and Matt Able; and more importantly, USC having a top 5 roster.

That said, this kid is the goods and stars are pretty much always undervalued so i suspect he’ll be worth it. Him and the kid Duke got are too young to enter the 2027 NBA draft so I suspect they will be monsters by their second year. Trent Perry @ UCLA could be unlocked with this signing.
 
USAB 17U is smoking Australia, not even close. The Australian pg being talked about as a lottery pick doesn’t look like one at all.
 
All this talk about amereica’s decline and every single team this 17u squad went u against lost by 30+. What a joke.

It’s the U19 where they start getting a little more threatening. Were never losing a U17 game

In terms of collection of talent, the US will always have more.

Put when it comes to individual players, Euro & foreign born players have closed the gap considerably.

In the next 5+ years, it's very feasible that at least 7 out of the top 10 players in the world won't be Americans.

Yeah even the U18 loss was the first one in that tournament since 2008. I just laugh at the same doom and gloom narratives that have been going on for 25 years that have never came to fruition.

At the highest senior level there has been a closing of the gap but USAB could have 3-4 extra teams be the second best team at the senior level whereas these other countries are in deep trouble if Wagner/Schroeder, Wemby, previously the Gasols, Australia never reached its full potential since Ben Simmons didn’t suit up, and so forth can’t play during a tournament.

Canada can thrive without Wiggins & Murray which no other country can afford to lose comparable caliber players; so I always consider them a legit challenger. They’ll need Zack Edey these next two summers to really challenge us.

France is creeping up because they are building the same wing/guard depth that Canada has. And of course, the twin Eiffel towers they have.

The team that wins the most and plays the most together is Germany, where the Wagner brothers and Schroder just blitzkreig anyone in front of them & they have superb unselfish chemistry.

yeah with individuals the rest of the world has caught up, especially at the highest levels. I do think it’s more an evolution than a sudden splash considering Dirk, Hakeem, Nash, Drazen Petrovic, Sabonis, Manu, Parker and Diaw, Yao, etc.

i think it’s going to be hard for foreign players not to exposure to American development systems like college bball or aau the way things are now, but it’s not inevitable or necessary pre-NBA.

Right now I’d say half of the top ten aren’t Americans although SGA played AAU and went to HS down here. Giannis, SGA, Wemby, Jokic, and Luka.

Yeah, I don’t really see anyone ever sniffing what we got going here. Sure, Canada is tough and will get stronger team-wise - they are a part of the same circuit system (and don’t they even school ball down here) with the added benefit of keeping a core together. Here, after U17 there’s no longer a core (if there ever was one) - it’s just a couple weeks together to stay warm for the final stretch of circuit. That U18 team that lost to Canada is not what would be our A team.

As far as the rest of the world - I think it’s cool how global the game is and seeing top talent from everywhere. I love it. They do things differently - ie train more and play less - and I think that adds to the evolution of the game but I’m probably one of the few people who support the USA way of playing more and training less with the circuit system and I even support the shoe companies’ involvement. Anyone hating on the circuits hasn’t been to Peach Jam. That’s quality hooping from top to bottom. You’re not seeing anything close to that anywhere else
