2026 Roster Discussion

Maybe we shouldn't try to mimic the team that has never won a CWS Championship and is solely trying to buy themselves into one and failing...

Jace was a 1st round pick, so his money was worth it

How about mimic LSU that’s a top spender of talent??

Cali, gotta agree with Canes point. NIL is not related to revenue in any way.

Even if baseball revenue was extremely high. The school would not be refunding individual boosters for their NIL contributions.

The boosters are giving their money simply for success.

Each individual booster cares about different sports. Obviously, football is the sport that ppl care about the most, so thats where the NIL money goes. But the fact that football is a revenue generating sport is a consequence of being the most watched and cared about sport, not the other way around.

I'm saying you're not going to get boosters just dumping millions into a program that doesn't make millions, period. Because they don't think it's worth it. Like it just doesnt happen. Sure could a billionaire just say I love Miami baseball and will spend $5M while every other program spends $1M on their roster? Sure. It's possible. Its not going to happen though. And expecting our boosters to suddently pony up multiple $250-500k chunks for single baseball players is crazy to me. I mean literally in the draft thread yall are talking about draft picks only getting like $1k contracts lol.

This isn't a one time thing we are talking about, it's year after year spending more. That is something that has much better results/return on investment to actually resulting in these wins when its a more individual focused sport. Baseball is not that. Basketball or the individual sports like track/tennis/diving are. It's as simple as that. Yeah obviously a booster who loves baseball is investing money to try to buy us a championship. But if that guy was previously already donating $500k/yr, and now you want him to donate $1M just to buy ONE extra good player that you pay $500k, you can easily see how that would be a no go for that booster. Because it's not money well spent most likely. And unless you get MULTIPLE boosters to each do that, how much are you REALLY effecting our national championship hopes?

Again think of the average level of player on this team and consider that the average pay is what probably $50k max? Likely less? Well if you raised it $20k per player then the average pay is $70k, a 40% increase. That $20k per player increase on a what 30 man roster is $600k. Which do YOU think for that extra $500-600k the booster is donating YEARLY is going to result in more wins? The one guy that makes $500k or the entire baseline of the roster getting raised?

Again This isn't basketball where paying for 1 stud can possibly guarantee you a NCAAT run. Where paying for 1 top tennis player to choose your school can literally win you national championships.

I just don't think any booster is looking at baseball and saying I'm going to drop extra millions on this product that only makes the school $5M/yr....

The people I know or have known who have donated to UM on levels to have buildings and such in their names donate mostly on the academic side because they care about those things more than sports.

When people like that donate on the “NIL” side, the return of revenues to the school on that isn’t what’s directly driving most of them though I believe that sports success benefits the rest of the school with increased attention, applications and all that. Look at Clemson for a perfect example. I’d guess Bama and UGA as well.

And no one cares about sports beyond football, basketball and baseball to a level of consequence, because the other sports just aren’t as popular. That’s why they are lower revenue sports - because no one watches them.

Who gives a **** how much is being made????

No one is donating money based on how much a program is making in Revenue

The value of your donated dollar is winning

Miami baseball is a BLUEBLOOD with a rich history

@RVACane
I feel your pain.

Wow. And Cuvet is supposedly getting 75k? Something ain’t adding up
The Athletic had an article in the winter talking about how NIL in college is impacting MLB teams draft strategies.

The article referenced Texas A&M as one of the top spenders in the country and cited Prager making $500k this year and Jace making $750k per their sources. $1.25M for 2 players.

That was this past year, and you know numbers go up every year

From what I have read..... LSU, Tennessee, Texas, and A&M and a few others are a country mile ahead of the rest of the country when it comes to NIL $ distribution. Just the facts of the situation.
Only LSU made it to the CWS this year.
We have a lot to sell as a destination here in Coral Gables....We have a strong NIL collective.
Recruits will come here, it's the development of players that needs to be improved.

If that's accurate, it could only be Tyler Bell at UK, or Chris Levonas at Wake. Do Wake and Kentucky really have that kind of NIL $$ for baseball?!

Tyler Bell

The guy the posted that son is a 2026 recruit from IL as is Tyler Bell

Looks like it was well worth it too, but I think he implied it was $800k over 3 years, but I’m sure he could also renegotiate based off his performance?

Update. Spoke with some MLB scouts/ guys with good knowledge and the Evans/Ogden carousel isn’t done. Evans is finishing up his time in the Cape Cod meaning any team, at any time can offer him a Free agent deal to sign. And Ogden, has all the way until school begins to get the same. Keep your seatbelts strapped in.

When does school start?

Sounds like Miami is low balling them if they’re actually entertaining a UDFA contract?
