2026 Portal QBs

Personally, after seeing Beck in this offense, I’m no longer concerned about portal QBs. I have confidence that Luke Nickel can be the one. Miami just needs to surround him an elite OL and a great defense and it’s all good. Spend your money there. Beck didn’t throw for 300 yards once this year and was a game manager all the way through. With Fletcher, Brown, and Pringle… that run game figures to be pretty **** good. Let’s Go LUKE!!
The only two games we lost he threw like 6 picks. We beat Ohio State and he threw for like 140! I want us to get a qb that can win us big games as well but this team is built like Alabama before Tua. Georgia won two chips with someone named Stetson. I trust we will find a QB.

Canes fans are so used to correlating transfer QBs to success given Ward and Beck success. But don’t get it twisted. We’ve also had Tate Martell and D’erique King too. Meaning it’s not just about the transfer QBs. It’s about the coaches. And personally, I don’t see anything special in any of the transfer portal QBs that would warrant paying them millions. Not one of them! Especially Leavitt. LSU fans will be disappointed just like Gator fans were with Lagway. Let’s Go Luke!

I wouldn't call them stars either, but Raiola completed almost 73% and got injured in his 9th game, so it's not a simple comparison.

Personally, I think there were only a few guys actually close to star-level that we were after, and obviously we've struck out on them.

I wouldn't mind Bailey at this point, but I seriously doubt he's coming here anyway. This has been a disaster, anyone pretending otherwise is just being a homer lol
Not ideal for sure, but I can’t see Mario going with Emory or Nickel after making a natty run, I just can’t. That would be malpractice. we do this panic mode thing every year now only for them to figure it out in the end. Personally I’ll wait till portal szn is officially over to mope about next season.

The coaching staff disagrees with that notion.

It's not over yet, but at least there was some smoke for those two guys. Right now, legitimately seems like we've whiffed on every single target

Trust me, I hope they end up pulling something out of nowhere, because if we have to roll with what we've got on roster.. yeah, malpractice at the very least

Another thing landing Ward and Beck did was hide the fact that this staff really hasn't recruited HS QBs well. Not sure what's up with that, but it might rear its head and cost us next season if we don't land anyone.

Coaching staff wants depth and someone with experience to continue to push Nickel and Coleman, which is expected. But I doubt don’t believe they can roll with Nickel. If that’s the case Sam Leavitt would be a cane.Miami could have won any bidding war they wanted

Miami quite literally entered a betting war with other universities and pulled out at the end realizing the QB they were trying to get was actually not a man of his word.

They then proceeded to offer 6.5 million dollars to a QB who leaves for the NFL.

And prior to these two instances, they went after Sorsby and offered top dollar.

And, as we speak, they're ringing the phones with agents hearing Miami has money to spend.

None of these things speak like an endorsement for Nickel.

Word on the street is that we are having multiple conversations with multiple options, maybe more, unless those conversations have stalled. This should be wrapped up by this afternoon, unless it's not. In which case the conversations will continue on into tomorrow potentially, unless they don't.

So....the....rumors....it has legs?

The recruiting thing I think is a byproduct of our strategy of not wanting to spend big on highly rated HS qbs who while having the potential to develop into stars can easily bust or transfer out IE. DJ Lagway…the problem is that our evaluations of lower rated guys have been utter *** so far. Maybe Dawson is just not a good evaluator of untapped HS QB talent. I like Coleman though.

Thing is we don’t need a guy to throw for 3500 and 35 tds, so the panic of some posters is crazy.
Back has been great, but it’s not like we’re running air raid.
******* thank you. mario is building this team in the model of saban’s early alabama teams. suffocating defense and overwhelming talent on the offensive line. look who he had at qb for those teams: john parker wilson, greg mcelroy, aj mccarron. mccarron broke the passing record at the time with just over 3k yards before they moved to spread in 2014.
