What’s going on with him

Hopefully not a **** thing. This fanbase overrates him terribly, he's a good athlete, an improved passer, but not a difference maker on the big stage. He's a poor man's Jordan Travis. A dude that has played a ton, brings a lot in regards to athletic ability, but isn't a top end passer.

1-4 against the 5 best teams he faced

TrumpyCane wasn't impressed
There is alot that goes into winning a game, too many variables and players on field to put it on one guy.. we should be well aware of that seeing guys like Cam Ward and what he did at prior stops..

Sorsby was easily their best player on offense. PFF says there’s a big gap on offense from Sorsby to rest of offense. I think he’s waiting on a little more clarity on his draft status - someone just mocked him at end of first round.

Rascon is disappointed that Trumpycane appears to only have looked at the scoreboard and not the games, lol.

What do you reckon that Pitt QB would cost to bring down to Miami?

Narduzzi would probably come out of his own pocket if he Mason tried to transfer to us. I'd assume 4 a year is the floor now for a quality p4 starter.

Watched some tape of Bailey last night and his upside is pretty high. He probably has the highest NFL upside out of the qbs realistically mentioned here.

Raiola. Weird cosplay. But the arm talent is there. He makes incredible throws off platform a lot. Honestly, I think he can be better than Beck if he had team talent like UGA and Miami.

Sorsby and Leavitt are still my favorite, simply bc they bring true dual threat ability. And I want to see that here at UM.

But were splitting hairs, all four of them can lead the canes to another playoff.

I think he’s going to get a mid-round grade. My guess is someone pays him a lot of money in the portal and he returns for one more year.

I would definitely take him over Bailey.

Would be cool with Bailey if it was similar to the Dante Moore situation where he watches behind another starter and waits a year.

If Leavitt wasn’t injured he looks the part. I like the north Texas dude for the simple that he just looks better to me than the p4 prospects.

But there has to be a dude in the g5 that can ball but who’s willing g to take that risk the way Dillingham did with Leavitt and the way wasu did with Ward.

One of those g5 kids is gonna ball at the p4 level and get absolutely paid after next season.

North Texas QB is good, but he played two "real" teams, Tulane and USF and was 51-80 for 630 yards with 4 TD and 6 INT

Raiola is a talent, but weird & don’t see him fitting. Announced de-commit from Georgia via a poem. Saw him play in HS & sat by himself on bench away from coaches/players. Real odd vibe. Not to mention the goofy infatuation with Mahomes.

If we don't land Leavitt, I'd rather take a flyer on Sellers than have to deal with Raiola and his baggage. We already have Toney coupled with the strong run game/OL, so the potential versatility that Sellers gives you would be extremely fascinating to watch, especially in the RPO game.

Locker room reaction to Raiola would be interesting. May put quick end to his act.

Cam actually played well against good teams

Trumpycane should’ve mentioned Sorbys stats also stunk in those games

I did the same ChatGPP scouting report for Sam Leavit. I annualized his season (I know not perfect) but it helps to standardize his data. Anywhere, here is what it said. It’s just a tool, not definitive…

Sam Leavitt — Transfer Scouting Report
QB | Rising Junior | Arizona State
Context: Multi-year starter, Big 12 Champion, CFP participant (loss vs Texas), 5 games missed in 2025 (stats annualized)

Executive Summary

Sam Leavitt profiles as a proven, high-floor Power-4 quarterback whose performance against Top-50 defenses is materially stronger and more stable than CJ Bailey’s, particularly in decision-making, rushing impact, and competitive resilience.
He has already demonstrated the ability to win championships, manage high-leverage games, and function against elite competition. While he is not a pure vertical assassin, he maintains efficiency and control against strong defenses and adds meaningful value as a runner.

Bottom line: Leavitt is a CFP-capable starter right now, not a projection.
Snapshot: Top-50 Defense Performance vs Career

QBR148.0141.6▲ Plays better vs Top-50

Key takeaway: Against Top-50 defenses, Leavitt’s efficiency holds, his decision-making improves, and his impact rating increases — a major differentiator from CJ Bailey.

Passing Traits vs Top-50 Defenses

✅ Positives
  • Yards/Attempt increases vs elite defenses (rare)
  • QBR rises against stronger competition
  • Only 3 INTs in 8 Top-50 games
  • Maintains effectiveness vs:
    • BYU (13)
    • Utah (29)
    • Kansas State (43)
    • UCF (37)
    • Texas Tech (5)
He consistently protects the football while still generating chunk plays
⚠️ Limitations

  • Completion % dips to 59%
  • Explosiveness is selective, not constant
  • Passing TD rate drops slightly vs elite fronts
  • Can become conservative late in games with a lead
Translation: He prioritizes winning over stats, even against strong defenses.
Pressure & Sack Profile

  • 16 sacks vs Top-50 (30% of career total)
  • Acceptable given volume and play styles
  • Shows:
    • Better pocket movement than Bailey
    • Willingness to take sacks instead of forcing throws
    • Improved pre-snap identification
Against Texas (ranked #3):
  • Comp %: 52%
  • Y/A: 4.8
  • QBR: 88.4
  • Still avoided turnover
This reflects high-end situational discipline, even when outmatched.
Dual-Threat Impact

Leavitt’s legs are material, not auxiliary.
  • 68 rushes, 212 yards, 1 TD vs Top-50
  • Consistent 3–5 yards as a baseline
  • Regular short-yardage and red-zone contributor
  • Adds stress to linebackers in zone looks
He is not explosive-chaotic, but physically reliable and assignment-sound.
OC takeaway: He is a designed-run-capable QB, not just a scrambler.

Win/Loss Context

  • 6–2 vs Top-50 defenses
  • Wins include:
    • Home
    • Away
    • Neutral-site (Big 12 title game)
  • Losses:
    • Texas (CFP) — elite defense, elite athletes
This is a championship-caliber competitive profile.
National Context (Passing Ranks)

2024:
  • Passing yards: 37th
  • TDs: 27th
  • Y/A: 22nd
  • QBR: 20th
  • INT avoidance: 105th (good)
Annualized 2025:
  • Passing yards: 38th
  • TDs: 16th
  • QBR: 72nd (injury-adjusted)
He grades as a top-30 to top-40 national QB, with postseason validation.
Projection & Fit Evaluation

What He IS
✅ Proven Power-4 starter
✅ Championship-tested
✅ Strong decision-maker
✅ Dual-threat with physicality
✅ Pressure-resilient
✅ Leader in structured systems

What He Is NOT

❌ A pure air-raid volume thrower
❌ A high-risk, high-variance QB
❌ A Mahomes-style off-script creator

Ideal Fit (OC Perspective)

Sam Leavitt thrives in:
  • Balanced offenses
  • Play-action / movement pockets
  • QB run packages
  • Situational football (3rd down, red zone)
  • Defenses that want ball security
He can operate:
  • Under center
  • In shot gun
  • In tempo or control systems
He is not scheme-fragile.

Final Verdict (GM / HC Level)

Sam Leavitt is a legitimate CFP-ready transfer quarterback who can win games immediately at a playoff-contending program. He does not need to be “protected” by scheme — he complements it.
He may not carry an offense alone, but he:

  • Wins championships
  • Beats ranked team
  • Avoids fatal mistakes
  • Elevates roster efficiency
Transfer Grade: A-
CFP Ceiling: Legitimate Starter
Risk Profile: Low
Upside: Moderate-to-High
