2026 Men's Basketball Recruiting

I think these first few years are gonna be portal heavy to fill out the starting lineup just because we will have to stack HS recruiting classes. Hitting on more Dante Allen's will help that. You can even argue we hit on all 3 of the overseas guys because they're playing minutes and contributing (even though Altuntas and Dovrat seem limited right now). Altuntas/Malovec are FR while Dovrat is a JR. We definitely hit on Shelton. Maddox is up in the air (hoping he develops, former 4*), and hard telling if Kee/Laboy will ever develop into something here - I kinda doubt it. So out of 7 Freshmen, 4 are contributing in the rotation and 1-2 (Dante/Shelton) are starter caliber? Pretty good.

The only 3 losses (aside from possible transfers) are Tre, Malik, and Udeh. Those 3 slots can be portal fills again.

Overall, I think it's a good mix. We fill 1 spot with Gaskins, and plan for 1-2 portal departures along with losing the 3 SRs, so the numbers mean we'll need 4-5 portals, at least 2 of them impact adds. Jai's not going to bring us Duke-esque classes with multiple 5 stars (ever, I think) - but he doesn't have to as long as he uses the portal well to fill in holes with starters as the rest of the roster develops.
I don’t want to hate on dovrat but I’m 100% confident that any LA fitness in the major cities across America have better players than a Dovrat. I truly have no idea what the eval was there….. also makes me question Euro League ball if he’s been playing pro over there for many years:

He has no handle, he isn’t athletic, he can’t defend a chair, have never seen him beat someone off the dribble, shot is okay.

How he’s playing at Miami blows my mind

Get to the dance this year and things might pick up a bit.. its still a 3 year ride before we can truly compete consistently as an ACC Top 3 team..

Even as I appreciate Coach L, he didn't do us any favors by hanging on for 2 disastrous years after our Final Four finish. He should have retired after that 1st year, when he knew it was caving down on him.

The jury is still out on Coach Jai.

If Matt McMahon is really on the hot seat at LSU and he gets fired at the end of the season, that could cause Kevin Thomas to re open his recruitment.
LSU is currently 14-9 overall and 2-8 in the SEC.
Thomas is a 6'8 shooter that Miami can definitely use next season.

If we could pair McCoy and Henderson together on the wing, with Gaskins at the 4; we gon be iight lol. We just need to find shooters; hopefully a Quentin Post type 5 to give us spacing.

What’s kinda interesting about Henderson’s season is that it is clearly better than Walker’s on a similarly situated canes team….but he has 1/50th of the buzz because this draft class is loaded. And, shooting has become 50x more important than it was 8 years ago.

He doesn’t have the same speed, bounce or jumper as Walker; but Walker wasn’t that strong of a shooter. He is not far off in each area while being stronger, a better finisher, defender and built for the league right now. Neither are superb creators off the dribble. Really hope we get Henderson back.

Depends upon who replaces him obviously but it’d make LSU have to restart on their 2027 prospects too which Miami is in play for a few of them.

Kevin Thomas would be right in line with what Jai wants the identity of the team to be, and we’d get back into Sagemont after losing Able. Would land the best player from dade and Broward.

The knock on McCoy coming into this season was that he was just not a particularly good shooter. Including from the Free Throw line.

Hopefully, a more current eval would tell us something different?

Sagemont player and UK national dominates the basketball without borders combine. Fastest 3/4th court sprint and the highest standing and max vertical.

6’5.75” w/ 7’0.25 wingspan

Guess he was playing for Newcastle’s youth program and switched to basketball at 14. 2026 kid

If he is legitimately 6'10 and gets two years of eligibility then he would be a good fit in Coral Gables.
Given the depth of the 2026 NBA draft, I don't see him being a 1st round pick this year.
