If i were to actually do what the exercise
requires rather than just copy & paste the AP poll like many CFB writers do, I’d end up at something like this:
BYES:
1. Miami: 13-0
2. Alabama: 12-1
3. Utah: 13-0
4. Notre Dame: 11-1
5. Purdue, 10-3, Vs 12. Oregon State, 11-2,
6. UCLA, 12-1 (Purdue), Vs 11. UGA, 10-2 (losses to Mizzou and Ole Miss),
7. Ole Miss, 11-2, Vs 10. Oklahoma State, 11-2,
8. Indiana, 11-2 (losses to Purdue, UCLA) Vs 9. Wake Forest, 11-2,
OR like this:
1. Indiana 13-0
2. UGA 12-1
3. Miami 12-1
4 Notre Dame 11-1
5. Oklahoma State 12-1 Vs 12. Oregon State, 11-2
6. UCLA, 12-1, Vs 11. Louisville 10-3
7. Arizona, 11-2, Vs 10. Texas 10-2 (LSU)
8. LSU 11-2 Vs. 9. Northwestern 11-1
Not saying this is what I actually believe will happen; I’m being silly — the SEC prob gets more than 3 teams in — although i am bullish on Purdue + Louisville, the odds aren’t in their favor; just saying that without taking schedule into account;
you’re literally not doing anything by saying these are potential playoff matchups via current rankings lol.
One thing that is becoming apparent by actually trying to map it out; the Big XII is in a pristine position to get 2 teams in for the first time. Could even get 3 depending how things shake out. Extremely early tho and unexpected upsets are to be expected with this much time left.
There are endless conditionals left to unfold. Which is why most people avoid actually doing the exercise in its entirety.
