Honestly, I am enjoying the season and I am not focused on next season at all. I only posted this because Jamier Jones is a Florida kid who had a good season at Providence. With Kim English being fired, he could enter the portal and look to play at another school for 2026-27.
He is similar to Sheldon Henderson in build but like Sheldon, they both need to work on improving their jump shot.
In the Jai Lucas system build on length, defense, rebounding and fast break points, he does fit the mold of the type of player for his system.

Abdi Bashir should get some consideration as he is 6'6, long, athletic and he has the ability to knock down shots from deep.
Making ten 3s per game would take Miami to another level.

Is it a crime to recruit players who are pure shooters? Be nice to recruit at least one who fits that bill. At least one .... two would be even better.

Short answer is no but he did address a lot of other needs that are required to win.
Jai Lucas did establish a culture and direction in his first year at Miami.
Going forward, everyone knows we are a physical, long, athletic, defense and rebounding first team.
That as we now know is worth atleast 18 wins.
Yes, we all know and realize the shooting could have been better but that is probably the only box that didn't get checked in his first season of being a HC.
All things considered, it's pretty good given how most coaches have more misses with the transfer portal than hits.
I fully expect shooting to be addressed as guys like Henderson, Washington, Allen, Norvat and Malovec should take a step forward in improving their jump shot.
I do think after another C to replace Udeh, shooting is the biggest priority but the player must also be long, athletic and physical as this is a defensive, rebounding fast break team.

Udeh has been great. Knows his role and does it well. He'll be the hardest to replace I'd guess. As you say, priority #1.

Tre has arguably been our MVP, providing leadership, running the point, and scoring.

Reneau has been unbelievably consistent all season long. Far surpassed what I expected out of him offensively (after seeing him a lot at IU).

That's what most remarkable about the first year under Jai Lucas.
Those are 3 big hits in the portal.
Those three have played so good, you would almost think they have been playing together for 4 years.
Imagine if those 3 were the recruiting class instead of Christian Watson, AJ Casey and Favour Aire.
As bad as Jai Lucas missed on shooting, he hit every other need with sniper accuracy.

Well Jai openly stated he wants Florida guys, preferably from Miami, out of the portal. Going to get a serious look.

Jamier Jones from Providence would be a better fit.
With 3 scholarships left, finding a C to replace Udeh Jr is priority #1 from a roster construction standpoint.

We will lose current roster players to the portal.
Especially with the good vibes of how this season went versus last, I don't see anyone straight up leaving unless Jai asks them to leave. The guys like Laboy and Kee are young but likely never to become contributors, and Treyvon Maddox has been injured pretty much all year. *Unless* one of them is much better in practice but not good enough to help us this year, I think at least Laboy/Kee walk, but Maddox might just be healing and getting developed (gut feeling on my part).

The other big question roster-wise is how will Marcus Allen look if he is able to come back after his battle with cancer. I'm pretty sure we'd welcome him back given the circumstances unless he just decided he wanted to drop down for more PT opportunities. He may not be able to come back at all, so hard to say. Definite wild card with him and his roster spot.

The next tier are the international guys - Dovrat, Altuntas, and Malovec. Dovrat's a Junior, so (again) unless Jai asks him to leave, I think he stays and tries to develop enough to lock down a 6th man role. Altuntas/Malovec are both Freshmen, and I think of the two, Altuntas is the likely guy you let walk. He was just ineffective and foul-prone. Not athletic enough. Malovec is still young and skinny, but he still played big minutes for us this year and had good stretches even with his swoon down the stretch. Some folks ain't gonna like this - but Dovrat/Malovec, I'd keep for next year...but if they *want* to self select the option to leave, so be it.

Tru and Dante will be back, and I think Shelton probably will return as well...he still needs some polishing before jumping to the league.

I think we'll have at least 3 if not up to 6 slots to fill for next year's roster. Gaskins is one of those, and if we somehow pull Cody Peck and/or Brandon McCoy, there's a **** good HS class right there. Then, Jai and staff use the portal to fill out the roster needs. Profit. ✅
