2025 MLB Draft

Not shocked at all

There’s also a possibility that those guys I listed declined to attend the combine, but that is just speculation/assuming. I have no info on that
It’s possible but Top 300 prospects are guaranteed 75% of their slot if they participate in a combine physical. So it’s at all possible, that they are coming here unless they get a big bonus so guaranteeing themselves at least 75% doesn’t really matter to them.

MLB.com Top 250 (expanded from 200)

Draft rankings for reference a year ago:
41. David Shields
89. Gage Ziehl
123. Lazaro Collera
124. Johnny King
147. Rafe Schlesinger
162. Michael Torres
215. Adrian Areizaga
419. Herick Hernandez

Lachi, Mikey, and Adrian made it to campus a year ago.

I added Herick for reference for a guy like Evans, where Herick was drafted in the fourth when no one expected it (Lefty proccess is strange)

So if ogden isnt even getting ranked within 250, chances are pretty good right??? Ogden fanclubbbb, make his return happen!!!!

Wouldn’t read a ton into that specifically. Many juniors outside the Top 250 will sign. The rankings are more useful when it comes to high school players.

Updated and expanded MLB.com Top 200
154 Piasentin (-10)
164 Hugus (-14)
197 Dubovik (NR in the 150, -100 from initial Top 100)

Antonio Jimenez is 167th as a draft eligible sophomore.
Dubovik 202 and Magana 244 in most recent MLB projection. We still have a shot at getting one to campus?

I’m curious what these kids mindsets are and what they’re actually looking for

$500-$700k wouldn’t be enough to get me to sign

Let's hope they have a big number in mind. 7th - 8th round slot values are only a couple hundred thousand.

Looking at the money for the slots in the 1st round and seeing some Sophmore eligible draft picks potentially getting mocked like Kade Anderson, spends 2 years at LSU, wins Natty, and then projected to sign for $11 million is how you do it

He went from being like 200th ranked player out of high school to #1 pick after two years is very impressive instead of chasing a few hundred grand out of high school

Agree - let's hope our blue chip recruits see it the same way.

Here’s the problem. These agents dig deep. You know they are using development…esp with recent pitchers.
I don't know - it hasn't been too bad. Hugus was on nobody's radar, Palm made an impressive transition to SP in one year and had some MLB starts this year, Gage developed fairly well, etc.

We've got the technology - need to convince recruits we know how to use it.

Rosario was a massive let down. Herick is throwing really well too. I know JD only had Herick for a year and he was just becoming. Full time pitcher but that isn’t how they will spin it.

Hugus will be big if he has some success. But he didn’t develop here…his second year at Cincy he stopped being a 2 way guy and made a jump then really shined in the Cape. We just extended him innings wise. I’m still not as sold on him as others. But if he can get the velo up a Bit more it could turn him into a quality pen arm.

Not disagreeing completely but agents won’t point to any success stories in college. They will point out guys who have looked better at the next level.

Also need kids like Ciscar and Derias to make that next jump next year. Your last statement is key. Gotta prove you are changing with the times.

I think Soto is going to be massive too for all the kids who stuck around campus and/or come back early. I beleive Derias is back at BPC which is good too. They will fine tune his stuff.

Only two players in recent history (aka old draft threads) that I can find in that range going into the draft were Del Castillo and Cuvet.

We did lose Brennan Davis at around the ranking of Piasentin.

Had a very long comment on Evans as to why, frankly, I would push him to sign if a team had a $250k offer (I believe that was the number I had him on, I don’t think it was $200k) for him this year during that discussion. I left the draft of the note too long and it’s no longer here.

Back to the bolded, cited Palm due to that transition, noting it was highly impressive but also that his track record was already there in relief. Evans; not so much. Age leverage as well.

That being said, Evans has some juice untapped and as a lefty that is super appealing but it’s a very cloudy eight ball in fallback to relief comparatively for clubs if starting isn’t in the cards.

My 2¢; I haven’t been exposed to all of his mechanics the same way I was able to watch Palm, Rosario, and some others.

Exactly. I think to a pro teams aye, they’re going to get a lot out of Evans to where he can become a premium prospect for a cheap amount. I even heard someone say he’s got a Skublal esk build and if the right pro team gets him, they’ll turn him into that within 3-4 years. He’s my sleeper to not return. But if he does, I think starting has to absolutely be in the cards.
