2023 Recruiting

Pitino will have that program up and going fast
Yep. And they've got their "benefactor" in Mike Repole with his checkbook.

Repole was the co-founder of Glaceau (maker of VitaminWater) which sold to Coke for $4.1 billion, and Bodyarmor Super Drink, a sports drink manufacturer, which also sold to Coca-Cola for $5.6 billion. (That's almost $10 Billion by my math.) Deep pockets.

Im up in NYC, St John's has been doormant for 25 years, NOBODY ever talks about them at all. The Pitino hire is great, he wins everyway. As far as the extracurrciculars, I could care less. Excited to see how the Johnnie's do. Where's Felipe Lopez at?

He's out back playing dice with Shelton Jones and Willie Glass.

Could he fit at Miami? Sure.
Would he play as a freshman?
Who knows!

I'd think he'd essentially be 'blocked' by Cleveland if he came here.

I think we'd still take a big man who'd get some run at the 5 (backing up Omier and buying Nwoko developmental time) or a sharpshooting 2 (if Coach L thinks George might need a year to adapt fully). Other than that, imo, we're done.

Opening up the article in full, the full list of schools is: Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Memphis, Ole Miss, Miami, Oklahoma and Illinois.

The initial schools that wanted him are: Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas, Arkansas is not recruiting him anymore.

He's from Texas and UT returns Tyrese Hunter while adding Max Abmas, don't think that's a desirable spot for him. Texas A&M also returns their lead guard and have already added two SGs in the portal. I don't think the Texas connection is much to worry about.

Alabama has two CGs committed and are returning a lot of their guards from last year, so PT there is also a big issue. Ole Miss is probably the biggest real competition because they do have open playing time.

If the kid wants to bet on himself and go to a successful program(Was committed to Kansas, would be a huge downgrade going to most of these other schools) and wants to stay in Florida(Went to Montverde), then I think Miami would be a good choice for him. I think it'll be contingent on where Cam Spencer decides to go, if he goes to UConn then we need another guard, but if he commits here then we don't need Chris Johnson. I think it would be nice to have another kid who could possibly have the Wong development arc here at Miami. We haven't had a true guard commit in two years, and all he would have to beat out for PT is Jakai.

I would love to add Johnson but not at the expense of Cam or another ready made starter to step into Wong’s spot. It would be great to get Johnson in to compete with the other Guards/Wings on the roster for playing time.

This is a pleasant surprise. But I can see why Coach L would take Djobet. Very similar build and style to what Miami likes to sign. About 6'7" and athletic. Tough wing player who can score. When Paul is on he can put the ball in the hole with the best of 'em. Plays HS ball in a couple of the top basketball conferences (SIAA) and leagues (Grind Session) in the country. Nwoko and Djobet both made the All-Grind Session Team this past year. Djobet reminds me a lot of Wooga, but might be a smidge better coming out of high school.

Djobet offers from Troy, Manhattan, NC A&T and Northern Illinois. RS candidate for 2023?
How does he pronounce his last name? I'd guess "Jo-Bay?"

Any film on the kid?

looks very raw but a **** ton of untapped potential. Love the pickup. Also helps tremendously with having another talented D1 body to practice. Credit to L and Staff for continuing to get more bodies for 23-24 season.
The staff may have been caught off guard by some of the defections following a Final Four run but it's nice to have some depth, albeit pretty young.
