NFL 2021 NFL Draft Thread

At Bama, he had one heck of an OL and RB (plural). Tannehill became good at TN because of OL and RB.

Bengals see their QB with a broken knee and are going to go WR...Cracks me up really. Atlanta? I guess Jones, Ridley, et. al. just aren't enough and if they can score 60 they will win 60-59!

I could be wrong but I am a best player available if you have a need there. We have need at WR, RB, OL, and Edge so if Chase is gone that means Sewell steps up.
Plenty of good OL on Day 2. They have 2 capable starters at OT already. This has been one of the biggest myths in the draft. They need interior help and a future RT. They don't need Sewell.

Bengals play a ton of Empty and use a lot of quick game. You need WRs who can separate quickly not OL who can block for 2.5 seconds, which isn't hard. Right now their starting X is Auden Tate. Chase fills a much bigger need and the drop-off to 2nd round X WR is massive relative to OL.

History has shown that some of the game's greatest WR are obtained after that huge drop-off to the second round.

Bengals played that quick game last year correct? The year Mr. Burrow took that beating? They take Chase I will feel good about the fish running up to the podium to select a tackle.

Don't really care all I want are day one starters from the first round so we can build on our 10-6. Just don't move back into the round to take a nickel guy or third down specialist.

With that being said..Had to edit this...

Thoughts on trading back a little to obtain future picks and grabbing somebody like Parsons and one of those other tackles or WR? We may end up trading back quite a bit though but if it is for future 1st and 2nd rounder. Find a way to grab Parsons and somebody like Bateman/Moore. Fun to think about just don't draft like a Harris out of nowhere and tell us how you like his motor and character.

It is strange how Bama having an NFL OL is the one overlooked part of the "we need to recreate Bama for Tua" narrative. It is always a focus on the WR and the RB but never on the OL that gave him 7 seconds and a clean pocket to wait for those skill players to work open. It does seem like Sewell's stock has dropped a bit through this draft process and season. Not sure if that is just the ascent of so many QBs and Pitts meteoric rise or something to do with Sewell.

I think it is the former because there hasn't been anything negative on Sewell.

I am just in the Pitts or Sewell camp...Or find a sucker somewhere to give up both a first and second round pick. I would even trade with Chicago or Washington and then maybe use a couple later round picks to slide up a few places if Parsons drops. Trading with those teams also keeps NE from getting their possible QB of the future.

All drafts aren't created equal. If the Bengals don't land Chase or Bateman they're leaving a huge hole at one of the most important positions on their team. The next best options are Terrace Marshall and Tylan Wallace who both have injury and route tree concerns. Last year they had AJ Green in that spot and he was one of the most inefficient WRs of all time. His inability to get open or catch anything contested was a big reason why Burrow had to extend plays and get hit. The only guy he trusted on money downs was Tyler Boyd in the slot. That's not good enough. It doesn't matter who your OL is if Burrow has no one to throw to he will expose himself to risk. That's his playing style. Deshaun Watson is/was the same way. QBs who thrive out of Empty and like to buy time take a lot of hits/sacks.

WR is about having top dudes and depth. OL is about your weakest dude. Getting Sewell upgrades Riley Reiff but doesn't make the 3 interior guys better. Moving Sewell to G is silly and still doesn't fully solve the interior.

So he had no time to throw AND they were 24th or so in rushing. Screams OL to me.

OL and RB make everyone look good including Tannehill. You say Wallace and Marshall but there is Brown from UNC, Moore, Toney, and no doubt others we haven't heard about like Thielen from Mankato who played with my nephew. They are out there.

Chase is the sexier pick for them and maybe it works out. I would like to have him here since we went so heavy in OL last year BUT should they be gone I am all for trading back somewhere first or running up there for the best tackle available.

No the point was most of the time he either threw quick or scrambled around for a while. And Mixon led the division in rushing when he was healthy.

Brown, Moore and Toney aren't scheme fits. Brown is a vertical threat only (for now) and that's a weakness in Burrow's game. Moore, Moore and Toney are slots and that's Tyler Boyd's position. Day 3 or UDFA WRs who produce like a 1st rounder are extremely rare...the outlier of outliers. Diggs, Brandon Marshall, Tyreek Hill and maybe a couple others over the last 20 years.

Just playing devil's advocate for discussion purposes...I'm a Chase guy, and Bengals is a perfect fit and finish...but...

Sewell + Marshall OR Chase + a top of R2 iOL...lets say Landon ****erson or Jalen Mayfield or something.

I'm sure its a discussion the Bengals have had...and its an interesting discussion, IMO. Probably more difficult to make in practice, IMO, even though it seems obvious to take Chase. idk. It'll be interesting to see long term how this works out.

Marshall might drop like a rock this weekend...sounds like major medical red flags. Even if he was healthy I like him better as a year 2 guy cause he's so unrefined. Bengals need instant impact. The word is they wanna stick it to AJ Green with the best guy they can find cause he was a malcontent. Never underestimate the pettiness of Mike Brown.

I've heard the opposite with ****erson that he checked out and will go late Rd1. Not a Mayfield fan. There are a lot of OTs in the early round 2 range, and I know you like Spencer Brown too so that's an example of a guy who might slip to later on Day 2.
