Not to stir the pot...but Bandy was wanted by alot of SEC teams at one point in his recruitment. Maybe not to the degree of most elite CBs...but he had alot of traction at one point.

Rather you want to admit it or not, there are multiple systems that do a better job at utilizing their CBs than us, and is why kids go running to those schools.

So what you're saying is it didn't matter what school Bandy and Henderson went to, the former would still go undrafted and the latter would still be a top 10 pick?

Gray despite all his years coaching never had a number one pick until he got cj.
We donā€™t put corners in the first round because weā€™re not recruiting anyone that has that level of talent.
Im not gonna get into this again. But until we recruit elite high school corners donā€™t expect anyone on this staff to make a 4.7 corner a day one pick.

No let's get into it. Gray actually did have a DB drafted in the 1st round, Kyle Fuller. He also had numerous Day 2 picks as well in his time at VT.

Blades Jr was a top 100 kid, Bandy was a 4*, Dean was a 4* JUCO, Ivey was a 4*, Frierson changed positions but was a 4*, and Dee Delaney was projected to be a top pick after transferring from the Citadel since Rumph has been here. You're telling me that there's a 0% chance that none of those guys couldn't/can't have been a Day 1 or 2 pick?

Henderson wasn't this untouchable 5* CB, he was a 4* ATH that developed into a 1st round corner. Wilson was a 3*, ran a 4.54, and was drafted in the 2nd. The 5* they had ran a 4.62 and was also drafted in the 2nd. Shoot, Marco wasn't a top 100 kid but started as a TF and was on his way to becoming another high draft pick before his injury. They never seem to have an issue at corner. What is happening differently in Gainesville?

Cj was a first rounder and thatā€™s what you said in your initial comment comparing him to bandy.
The number of 3 stars in the first round as corner since 2016 is 2. And one of them was 5ā€11 and ran a 4.39 at the combine.
Henderson was an elite athlete that any adequate db coach could turn into an elite corner and thatā€™s the reason everyone wanted him.

Making it as a day one pick is hard especially at corner. You sound extremely sure that Delaney was a guaranteed early pick if he wouldā€™ve had nfl fairy dust coaching form whoever. Not even LSU or osu make every db they get a day one pick and almost all of them are top 100 kids.
Delaney had a draft grade but not a high draft grade if he did he wouldā€™ve declared. If Delaney was that much of a badass, guaranteed day one, he wouldā€™ve been recruited by the sec.

But we have to make everyone a day one pick despite not getting the same level of talent at corner at the numbers those coaches get.
Every year LSU bama and osu get multiple dudes at corner that are freaks. And when the top sec schools get elite talent and they don't pan out, then whoā€™s fault is it? Canā€™t be the coach right?
And when we do it, itā€™s a failure of the coach and not of the player.
Delaney was a reach and we went to that well cause again ours was empty with any good dbā€™s not coming here.

Kyle Fuller was 3 star. And if grey is such a bad *** and was able to get one 3 star in the league why hasnā€™t he put out a bunch of first rounders in as 3 stars?

You either have it or you donā€™t. There is a reason why osu LSU and bama recruit freaks at corner.
itā€™s because they give you way better odds for them to be good and make the league as a high draft pick. I donā€™t think the receivers coach at central Michigan has ā€œdevelopedā€ another Antonio Brown.
You guys look too much into these position coaches as ā€œdevelopingā€ dudes.
ive talked about this at nauseam. Jeudy, ps2 minkah, and yes cj were drafted exactly where anyone with even a bad football brain like myself saw them get drafted.
We dont recruit Delaney if we get the wilsons and Elams of sofla. We donā€™t risk a schollie with Jeff Thomas if Jeudy comes here. Now all the coaches that get those players wether itā€™s grey or the dude he replaced get all the credit.
Thank god Jobe didnā€™t come here. Rumph would be even more torn to shreads. But lord saban gets a pass. Campbell at uga isnā€™t getting nearly the same draft buzz as stingley has as a true freshman. But elite dbā€™s still going to uga?
But because of whatever coach got whatever freak in the league at uga he must have that nfl fairy dust that made minkah sit everyone in the secondary as soon as he got to bama. The slot, boundary, free and box safeties. None of them were better than he was. Iā€™m pretty sure saban or any defensive coach wasnā€™t in New Jersey all summer before he enrolled working with him so he could be ready to sta as a freshman.

UM doesnā€™t have a corner back coaching problem. It has corner back recruiting problem.
And until thatā€™s solved no coach is fixing it.

Marshall sold out or trolled us. End of story. An elite player shows out no matter where he goes and the nfl and the hall of fame and the pro bowl proves that more than any other formula you want to put on here.
 


With the #1 corner playing like this you know who that helps. Regardless of the fact that he didnā€™t participate in off season work outs or much of anything with the team. Also horrible pass rush. Itā€™s all about perception
