2019 Roster Discussion

It would be nice to have some options - I watched Amditis hit one out at Wrigley Field in a HS All Star game. Maybe he can get back to that potential if he can stay healthy the whole year.

Yep, Amditis was an All American out of high school. Completely underwhelming his first two seasons here.

University of Miami Hurricanes Official Athletic Site
Roster updated (not including incoming freshmen). Epstein (graduated but had eligibility left) and Allen gone. Don’t see anyone else missing.

Gino said we have 34 players on the roster. He listed 27 Freshman and Sophomores, 7 Juniors, 1 walk-on Senior (that adds up to 35 so let’s hope his scholarship math is better...). Juniors listed on the roster are Veliz, McKendry, Rivero. Adding in Keysor and Van Belle that leaves open the possibility of one or two more JUCOs depending on his math and where he was counting Amditis (redshirt Sophomore).

Edit: 7 Juniors makes more sense if he’s counting Amditis and Maury (also a Redshirt Sophomore) as Juniors. Otherwise three incoming freshman would have to be missing to get to 34. There’s one too many as it is, with only Epstein and Allen gone from the 37 we had.

Looks like Norberto aka the Big Meatball is our new recruiting coordinator

Apparently, we’re going the cheap route. Not listed as the hitting coach though. Looks like either DiMare or the new volunteer infield coach (whoever that ends up being) will coach the hitters.

PG no longer has Tristan McDonough listed as one of our commits. The Herald article from today (not written by SMD) said we had a 14 player recruiting class, so this fits. Looks like we’ll have 20 returners, 2 JUCOs, and 12 freshmen.

read plenty about Del Castillo but not much about Tureo or Villar, whats their story

This excerpt is from another site a little before the recent MLB draft.

Another highly-productive local player who could help Miami’s lineup next season is Westminster Christian shortstop Anthony Vilar, who hit .457 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs. Vilar was not listed in MLB.com’s top 200 prospect list or Baseball America’s top 500 list both published last week. However, Vilar had a private workout with the Chicago Cubs two weeks ago and is someone who is likely to be picked somewhere.

The Sun Sentinel has Ryan Wimbush listed as “bound for Palm Beach State” in their Palm Beach 7A-9A team article from a couple days ago. If McDonough is in fact also gone as PG indicates, that leaves room for another JUCO or freshman in the 14 player recruiting class DiMare mentioned on Tuesday.

Does anyone track or have a list of non committed top JC prospects?

In college baseball it's pretty spotty. This late in the game you're generally getting someone who piques your interest in summer ball. Though Missouri State landed a Juco kid who was originally at South Carolina named Joey *****, who is probably the Juco POY, so there are some still out there to be had. More arms than bats.
