2019 CB Marcus Banks hits portal

I wish an insider can explain what happened here
I'm no insider, but seems like this one can be fairly interpreted with an outside perspective: a kid who quit on a winning team mid-year despite being a borderline starter wanted to go into a situation where he was comfortable with the coaching relationships and the projected depth chart situation. He leaned on the relationships.

Eventually we have to get to a point on the board where we can think critically for ourselves & have poignant football discussions without having to be in fear of backlash just because we have an opinion that might go against the grain.

Of course he would’ve been an upgrade over Ivey, there are FCS CB’s better than Ivey, but realistically speaking there wasn’t much to stand on as far as him being a good CB, other than he was once a 4-star 3 years ago & played for Bama, which on it’s face can mean something, but ultimately really didn’t mean much.

The good thing about the Portal is there is no deadline, a kid can enter in the Portal from now until August before the 2022 season starts & be available to play, obviously you wanna get’em in ASAP if you can, but we theoretically speaking have until March to find a solid Portal CB.

If we can get one by the time Spring camp starts we’ll be in good shape.
Some people think Bama turds are still gold a **** is a **** even if it's shiny. Rick's was the best portal CB he wasn't coming so now we wait.

That's leaving out that everybody thought he was coming here until he didn't, just want to know what changed.

looking at his numbers, it appears that he barely played at Bama. I know he may have been a great HS prospect or good one at least, but this isn't HS. either way, we were clearly after him and missed. its a miss no matter what.

Oh man is the Post Traumatic Manny Disorder coming out. Seek help. Missing on this one dude doesn't mean we're done bringing in corners. It probably would have last year. Once again, Manny Diaz is no longer the coach. It's true. He's even listed on Penn State's website.

It's a miss but not one that should be given additional thought. We can quickly move on from this.

This guy has to be joking. I don't care if you got shot in the *** man don't go out like this.

Blades honestly doesn’t really care all that much about football. He’s found his nitch in social media and other things. Not meaning to bash him but he’s not going to work on Marios team. Let’s give up the Blades starting or playing idea
Lmao why do people think these kids can’t have multiple talents?
And why do you say he won’t work in Mario’s team? Kids work ethic is second to none. If he is cleared he will be back out there.

Our opinions might differ, but aside from Stevenson, none of those corners should be starting here (if we're going to take the next step from a middling ACC team to Coastal Champs). Can they improve? Absolutely - it would be silly to give up on them (aside from Ivey, he needs his access to the building revoked). But from what I saw last season...

- Clarke: Abused by any WR with two hands, VT baptized him and he was consistently torched and out-muscled despite playing eight yards off the ball
- Couch: Regressed considerably, too small and not quick enough (at least this past year) to negate that
- Dunson: Never really stood out, rangy but a bit slow, interested to see what T-Rob can do with him in the Spring.
- Curtis: Didn't play much
- Blades: Don't think he's playing football anymore

So that leaves Stevenson, who's 50/50 on going pro (and knowing Miami's track record with keeping guys who have no business going pro, he'll leave). You can have one of Couch or Clarke out there, not both - two undersized corners make no sense. We desperately need at least 2 CBs that can immediately step in and play...and right now it's all contingent on true freshman.

All 4 star guys by a publication or more.. Everyone in the business of ranking/recruiting/evaluating kids were not wrong. We just are not developing these guys properly. Diaz was too busy trying to be buddy buddy with guys to discipline them for messing up in games

Let’s not be UF and star gaze.

-Here’s a kid who entered the portal during the season of a team on the cusp of winning another Nat’l title (red flag)

-Here’s a kid who was a highly ranked kid, couldn’t crack the rotation at Bama who have a coach that’s notorious for playing his best players regardless of class, and he’s been there 3 yrs. (red flag)

-Here’s a kid who have totaled 8 total tkls & 1 int (against FCS Mercer) for his entire career; yet, he was supposed to be a Top247 player, & #13 CB in the nation (red flag)

-Here’s a kid who was dropped in his recruiting composite score by almost .05 points (which is a steep drop) as a transfer (red flag)

-Here’s a kid who left Bama’s Def (notorious for flooding the NFL) for, not Miami or FSU who have had CBs recently drafted despite lean yrs, but for Miss St under Mike Leach! Here’s the head scratcher in this decision:
Under Leach (2000-19), TT/WSU had 11 players, TOTAL, drafted on the defensive side. 5 of the 11 were DBs (McBath -2nd rd, Wall - 6th rd, Curtis - 4th rd, Luani - 7th rd, & Bucannon - 1st round). Here’s the kicker…WALL IS THE ONLY CB DRAFTED UNDER LEACH (2010), and even he was converted to S by The Texans when he got to the NFL. (red flag)

Don’t lose any sleep over this kid. Lock this thread up; trust in the new staff. Again, we have professionals.

Stop with a reasoned fact based analysis. I will not stand for it on CIS!

FLY. THE. ****. PLANE!

It’s possible Leach - in full pirate rigalea- showed him the five Pirates of the Caribbean movies and dead-panned explained that these were documentaries unlike any other, and wanted Banks to join the crew of the Black Pearl.

He wanted to stay in the SEC I guess.

Even if he did; u don’t choose Miss St, not under Leach. Again, I gotta ? his ability to make proper decisions. U leave a school in the midst of obtaining another Nat’l title; u’re role probably changes b/c of Jobe’s injury, & u look for “greener” pastures w/ a coach who is not known for def or developing CBs?? OK.

No it doesn't just leave stevenson! It just leaves your opinion!
