I don't see this stuff getting any better, it's only getting worse. It all revolves around the adults who are among these kids. If you're not part of the Sly Johnson camp or you're not attending optimist practices/games then you basically have no shot at getting kids or keeping the ones you've got. Even if you're winning and doing a great job of developing your kids, the minute they attend a weekend skills camp there's somebody in their ear. If you're not there personally to police that junk they will do everything within their power to convince that kid to go elsewhere. They will lie, they will give the kid a ride home, they will befriend the parents, whatever it takes.
That's the name of the game these days. Either get with it or end up behind. That's basically what's happening with Guandolo. He can't get kids to Cypress anymore. He's old school and he's not gonna mingle among the Sly Johnson crowd and he probably doesn't have anybody on his staff that will either. Even if he did, most kids don't wanna play in that offense anymore. Same thing is happening to Art Taylor at Everglades.
