Northwoods is still a great league. NECBL is as well. They will see a lot of good pitching this summer.

At least our guys are getting a four week head start on the Gators and Noles.

One would think - have there been players that have started playing in the Cape and then signed, to your knowledge?

Yes, it happens. He can get drafted and keep pitching in the Cape until the signing deadline as well. He didn't pitch much this year so maybe scouts want to see more post injury.

Can’t say whether it ever happens, but our players typically aren’t signed to summer contracts when expected to be drafted, and the Cape usually starts later than other summer leagues anyway. This year it starts a week and a half after the draft.

Summer debuts tonight for both Quinones and Toral, batting 3rd and 4th respectively. Each went 1 for 4 with an RBI single. Surprisingly they were the only two players on the team not to strike out. Some misguided Wisconsin Woodchucks fan may be thinking, “Miami sure teaches their hitters how to make contact.”

Most of the other summer leagues open at some point this week. The Cape doesn’t open until next week.

Well, I would hope we wouldn't be striking out in that league. That roster is a freaking embarrassment. UW Stevens Point, Illinois State, Palm Beach Atlantic, Walsh University........good lord.

I believe that's a wooden bat league and it's very respected.

That's where Tommy Giles was discovered when he hit 10 HRs over one summer.

Don't be so dismissive.

Hunter Tackett was 6'3" long-bodied, recruited by an SEC school out of high school, and hit .400 at a top JUCO. Somehow he was almost a complete zero here.

Dogmatism in these cases is silly.

You believe that's a wooden bat league? That's cool, because all summer collegiate leagues are wooden bat leagues. The Corn Belt Summer Collegiate Baseball League is a wooden bat league. The Western Major Baseball League is a wooden bat league.

The Northwoods League is a second-tier operation for guys from small midwest schools. It takes work to find guys in that league who play at Power 5 programs.

Tommy Giles played at Vero Beach HS and Central Florida Community College. He was a second team All American at CFCC. If we didn't know about him until he played for the St. Cloud (Minnesota) River Bats, then everything we've said about our recruiting is spot on.

Everyone is second tier to the Cape but The Northwoods League is considered a top 3 summer league in the country.

Jagr is just being disagreeable like always.

He's now resorted to whining about the method in which we "discovered" a guy who hit .340 for us and was on a CWS team.
