Preferred walk-on offer I'm guessing
How does that discussion happen?
We need a Long Snapper and that's not a scholarship position.
Kid we want you to come to the U as a walk on.
Your family will have to pay the fifty grand a year but you can be on the team.
I can understand walking on at State schools or if you are already a student but this?
There must be an explanation.
Offer is a preferred since Jordan Butler is the starter and on scholarship. Scholarship will be awarded when Butler graduates... in Jan of 19 OR Aug of 19. They have been extremely honest with him. Financial aid, academic scholarships, etc.... will be worked on over the summer to see where he will stands. He doesn't need football to get into the U. He has a great GPA and test scores. They just need to make it cheaper for one year or maybe one semester.
Specialist are a different group of people. They know one scholarship stands for a punter, kicker, and snapper. They look for schools who will need a guy in the right year. Clay has been talking to Hartley since camp last summer and knew the situation. Special teams at the U is going to be really good in the future!!!! We already have the speed to cover now we are getting the right guys to put points on the board. Hartley is killing the game right now... TE and K/P/LS

Well, first of all, Miami offers A LOT of scholarship money to students. I'd venture to guess that a near majority of UM undergrads have some sort of partial scholarship.
We don't know the details, but if he is being offered as a preferred walk-on, that means they can guarantee he will be admitted and may be able to indicate that they have received confirmation from the administration that he will be eligible to receive X amount of scholarship money (assuming his grades/resume allows for it).
With all that said, I wouldn't be so quick to assume it's not a football scholarship. While I'm not a fan of using up a scholly on a LS, some teams do it.
is it true that Jordan Butler is one of our 85 scholarships?

appreciate the response, TOC.
i do know that you can award scholarships to players after they have been in the program for 2 years without it counting as an initial counter, so if Jordan Butler is being put on scholarship this year(his 3rd year), then it wouldnt count as an initial counter.
im mostly asking if he's actually on scholarship because it does count against our 85 number, which we will be (potentially) limited by with our 2018 class. as he's only a junior this upcoming season, he will still be on the team when the 2018 class is set to enroll & count against the 85.
