2018 Expectations vs. Reality

The final stretch of the season was a tough one. I went to the Wisconsin game and I wasn't mad at the result I was disappointed and then reality hit me. This season was great, it provided excitement and seemed to have created a new era of Miami football. The turnover chain was the talk of town for months and had many wondering is Miami "back".

With RJ and McIntosh leaving, following the popular trend (IMO the wrong trend) the Dline is thin on experience in the trenches. Barring a nice close by Coach Kul it's going to be tough for the big guys to keep up all year long. Many know the games are won in the trenches.

People will look at the 2017 season and the miraculous run we had winning out at FSU and at home vs GT, the smacking we put on National TV vs ND and VT and wonder what happened at the end of the year. The QB play wasn't there and idk if it will be there in 2018. People will expect Perry to come in and look like Deshaun Watson. The new crop of DB's are talented but young. Lingard is an old breed but he's young. The reality is we are too inexperienced at every position except LB and DE.

Next year is a step in the right direction, but after watching the Clemson game the gap is farther than I thought in terms of depth. 2019 I believe will be the year. I just want fans to realize how bad we were before Richt got here, we have a gator tears thread and that thread looked like CIS during the Golden years. We can only go up so enjoy the ride.

I still think we have a solid year next year, but with the way DT is shaping up, that gap is just too big for it to be A YEAR. I also fear that with the way DT is shaping up, 2019 will still have too big a gap between us and the Bama, UGA and Clemsons unless we really close strong this cycle. Hope that I am wrong :noidea:

We were good qb play away from winning 12 games this year. Offense is gonna be better almost everywhere. We are set everywhere on D except DT so if we can get a plug and play juco or grad transfer or can avoid injury, I expect nothing short of 10 wins again.

The reality of it is, that as long as we have to keep relying on true freshmans to be major contributors, we will not achieve the desired results. It's completely fine to lean on first year starters, but not TF. We need guys to stick around long enough to allow these young bucks to get their feet wet. Go Canes!

Even with the departure of Mcintosh and Norton we have enough elsewhere to compete for an acc championship

We'll be 4-5 deep at RB assuming that's Dallas' signature position.

You have a WR corp featuring Langham, Cager, Richards, Thomas, Harley, & Irvin coming back.

Only thing that's a question mark on O is the O-Line, we have to replace 2 starters there.

We'll be alright, everything doesn't have to be perfect to win 10-11 games.

I think oline will be fine with what we have coming back and what we’ve brought in last year and who’s enrolling early

Massively favorable schedule for Miami, unless they wildly under perform they should absolutely win the coastal again and challenge for the playoff.

I don’t see Dallas in a full time rb role. Wildcat, a few toss plays, rpo, motion, split out from the rb position, etc. I don’t see him as an every down type rb. Homer, lingard, hopefully burns and Davis.

Diaz slurpers already building in an excuse in case Manny Diaz’s D goes full Texas ****** next season. Why don’t we wait until 2030 you never know some recruits might not pan out?

We may give up 7 more points per game.
But we will score 7 to 10 more points per game.
So it’ll be a wash or perhaps a little better.

A good QB who can sustain drives and score points, will allow us to be competitive against anyone, in any game

9 to 10 wins max. No D line. Good teams will run on us all day long.

Who said we won't have a D-Line? RJ and Norton leaving hurts but it's not the end of the world. We have guys behind them who can play and Nesta is another guy who can contribute day one. If we won 10 games this year with inconsistent QB play we should be in much better shape next year if we get some consistency at that position with all the weapons we have. I think our defense is better than Oklahoma's and they made the playoffs because of a high powered offense and a decent defense

I dont want to hear the qb excuse. Perry should be ready. RS frosh come in and not only compete but excel all the time. If they cant get him ready then thats on the Offensive coaching staff. With the DL departures we will have to outscore most of our opponents. The offense needs to show up next year or significant changes need to be made. I think this is another 10 win season next year. Hopefully another acc champ appearance and a better showing in the game
