Ok, will make the leaving/staying part quick. If Corn and Grace stay, I will be very excited about what a good coach can do with this unit.

I've already noted the potential difference in money for Grace. I liken him to Kwon Alexander, who left early and was selected in the 4th round. He's doing very well in the pros, by the way. Difference:

Solid second round money like 5 million over 4 years with 2+ million guaranteed VS 3 million over 4 years with 500k guaranteed.

Corn is a bit of a different story. I'm worried he'll leave (along with Artie). Someone like Kevin Johnson (who looks very solid) makes me think Corn will rise very quickly. If he were to stay, I think Corn can work himself into a 1st rounder or, at worst, a high 2nd rounder. If he leaves, he could slip into R3 (where he'd be a wicked steal).

AQM could leave. I think he should definitely stay, as it benefits him to show out in a new defense better suited to his skill set. The difference in money for him could be enormous. He's looking at a possible 3+ million difference in contract and a big difference in guaranteed money.

At worst and with key reserves:

DE Chad Thomas/Demetrius Jackson
DT Kendrick Norton/Mcintosh
DT Courtel Jenkins/Moten
DE Gerald Willis/Trent Harris

SSLB Darrion Owens/Mccray
ILB Juwon Young
WLB Marques Gayot/Perry

CB Sheldrick Redwine
S Rayshawn Jenkins
S Jamal Carter/Jaquan Johnson
CB Mayes, but likely a True Frosh or Juco

At best and with key reserves:

DE Chad Thomas/Demetrius Jackson
DT Kendrick Norton/Mcintosh
DT Courtel Jenkins/Moten
DE AQM/Gerald Willis

SSLB Darrion Owens
ILB Juwon Young
WLB Jermaine Grace/Marques Gayot

CB Sheldrick Redwine
S Rayshawn Jenkins
S Jamal Carter/Jaquan Johnson
CB Corn Elder/Mayes

In the best case scenario, that is a top 10 defense (with a good coach). That is a top 5 defensive line in the nation. Top 10 LB unit in the nation. And, possibly a DB unit with a top 3 Corner in the nation.

Artie is gone probably ends up in the second round.

He's not even part of my draft discussion. I consider him gone. He can climb to the top of round 2 or even sneak into Round 1 with a ridiculous combine effort.

I think Shaq will be a key reserve next year and McCloud (if the new coach can get him back) too...

The best case scenario is so far ahead of the worst case scenario. We really need Corn & Grace to stay.

I think Artie is gone, but the only reason I'm holding on to hope is that he promised his mom he would earn his degree before she passed. Obviously he could earn it later but I can hope...

I see a very slow Defense today. Unless these guys all of sudden shave a full second of their 40 times, they will not be a top 10 Defense...

Honestly Lu, AQM, Corn, and Artie could all declare and it wouldn't matter. We're still in the coastal which is the weakest div in any P5 conference.

Miami should contend for the coastal every year regardless of talent with a competent coach.

You're right. But, I'd prefer to set the bar a little higher. With a best case scenario defense, and a good coach/system, we can reasonably do so.

You see guys look slow.

Here's what I see:

While the offense is preparing to get set, I see the coaches relay in an algebra word problem. The defensive players then solve that problem (some alone, some together). When they're done, they're allowed to go stop the ball.

At times, that process looks slow.

Some of it these kids are still having to think too much. I'd also lean up these kids up. For instance, a kid like Young can play Mike at 238 to 240 pounds not the 245 he's currently at. In a 40 front, Norton and Jenkins would be best served to drop 10 pounds.

I love the Corn/Kevin Johnson comparison. Was thinking the same thing. Similar body types. Johnson is probably the more technical corner but Corn is the better athlete.

It will be interesting to see how we close with the LB class. We will have to rely on some of those guys.

In your at worst post you might want to exclude gayot. He had a pretty serious injury from what I've heard.

I expect Tyler Byrd to play a lot next year (assuming he sticks)
