Would be a slam dunk hire. This a realistic option. As much as I would like a Chip Kely or some other big name, these are unrealistic. DJ is only making $800K a year as Michigan DC and is 37 years old. Spent 4-5 years in Florida running that sick defense and learned to recruit Florida kids. I hope Blake James realizes the potential here.

Good assistant. What's he done as a HC?

"Realistic" is code for let's keep doing the same dumb ****. Either UM wants to compete, or it will keep being "realistic".

Ah yes, Coach Du Jour.
What kind of wine would you recommend for it?

If we are going to throw out College Assistants then how about Brent Venables. Back to back years with the #1 defense in college.

I remember banners flying over the OB calling for Butch's head. While he is an excellent talent evaluator are you ready for the occasional brain farts in big games? How soon you guys forget.

I think DJD would be a perfect fit.

You sure he's the DC at Michigan?

I heard he was the bouncer at Club Pickle.

And his Head Coaching experience? Or is someone suggesting we have another Amateur Hour tryout lasting five years?

Who cares if he had hc experience. Neither did butch Davis when took the hc job here. Guy is young, has been at three big time programs (Stanford lb coach, UF lb coach and dc, and Michigan dc), and been outstanding wherever he's coached. Plus he has a lot of experience recruiting the state of Florida. He wouldn't culturally be an outsider like golden has proven himself to be.

Plus why were people so bent on hiring Herman or Morris? Those guys until now had ZERO hc experience

Butch Davis WON A SUPERBOWL AS A DC. Please don't compare DJ freaking Durkin to an NFL championship winning coordinator.

Don't think he's a HC type. Not a big personality and not a great recruiter. Good DC though
He is actually a very good recruiter... But hiring a guy with no head coaching experience is a massive fail. He could turn out to be the next Bob Stoops.. Or the next Ron Zook or will muschamp (more likely as most coaches are mediocre). You have nothing to base his resume on as a head coach. Total risk.

Slam dunk? He was the DC at UF for 2 years, and now is the DC at Michigan. Dan Quinn built UF's defense, by the way.
