In the last 2 classes per espn
The 2016 class consisted of 11 4stars(10 in the espn 300) and 7 3stars
2017 class consisted of 13 4stars(10 in espn 300, 1 in juco top50) 11 3stars

Total of 24 4 stars and 18 3 stars in the last 2 classes. This is pretty good and a good indicator of the quality of talent coming in

just look at the elite talent coming in at the last 2 classes. To me these two classes complete each other imo

You fill a lot of needs with both of these two classes

Need to continue this trajectory in 2018. Elite talent only should be the focus. Need to sign a class in the top 5(preferably) or top 10 for 2018

Positive way to look at the last 2 years.

CB ,RB and DT standout as future areas of need.

Gotta hope for an injury and suspension free 2017 season

Yeah we got to sign 4-5 corners. Not trying to spin it anyway. Uf beat us for corners we wanted but honestly the most polished corners that have come out of south Florida in a long time are in the 2018 class. So with that being said with Miami only taking 3 corners in the last 2 classes with 1 being a 2 year guy those recruits will see immediate playing time. If I'm picking a class to load up at db it would be the 2018 class over 2017 but that's just me. Got to close on them though.

I think the staff has done a great job with balance. Recruiting never works out perfectly - so this is about as good a job as you could hope from a balance perspective.

2016 & 2017 are probably the best back to back to back classes we've had in a long time. Doing it consistently, and landing 2-3 more blue chip prospects per class is the key. Even one poor class (like 2015) can set you back a ways.

Richt is off to a very good start.

Good post Brock, I agree the staff have done a good job the past two years.

People tend to get all caught up in what could have been, especially since expectations were raised, but we have a really good class and we did last year too.

There have been a lot of studies concerning loss aversion vs potential gain, and what is always the result is that people are far more effected by loss then they are by gain, usually by a ratio of 2:1. For example, there's a much stronger emotional reaction to losing $10,000 on the stock market then there is for gaining $20,000.

I think we see that very same thing play out on recruiting every year.

Looking at that post, like you said, I think what's lacking is RB and a couple more CBS, other then that it's a very good two year haul.

Great breakdown, but I'll switch out Surtain for Samuels if I were on the staff. We chased these types and struck out two years running.

Here you go @brock. Here is how I rank the 2017 class based on importance (immediate need):

1a. Perry (QB) (Not convinced Richt is sold on the QBs on the roster; I think Perry is the real deal; not a running quarterback, but he is elusive - needs to add weight)

1b. Weldon (QB) (I think he's going to surprise some people; he seems to have a bit of an edge about him; getting in early is great for us; he too can take off and get yards with his feet if necessary)

2. Donaldson (RT) (Expect him to be a starter at RT in Fall 2017; he wants to lose baby fat and add muscle; has the chance to be special, another 1st rounder in the making)

3. Dean (CB - Boundary) (We needed a corner who could come in and play; Dean gives us experience and lots of speed; I believe he will start in Fall 2017; we didn't get a Juco just to add depth)

4. Thomas (WR-X) (We needed another threat to help take coverage off Richards; we got that and then some; arguably the fastest receiver in the 2017 class; plays fearless; we now have multiple guys who should help us in the return game)

5. Carter (S) (We needed another safety and Carter gives us an enforcer who can come down into the box or decapitate receivers crazy enough to come anywhere near him on the field; I expect at least one targeting penalty against him next year because of his violence; I think he too will get quality minutes)

6. Gaynor (G/C) (I think we need Gaynor's help on the OL more than we need DJ's help on the defensive line; Gaynor is a monster - just watch his film; some might have Herbert ahead of him, but I think Gaynor is closer to being ready to play from a physical and technique standpoint; he also can play C or G; I expect him to be an early contributor - not a starter but contributor)

7. D.J. Johnson (DE) (Johnson is special; his offer list is arguably the best of any recruit we've had in some time. However, we are loaded on the DL with guys who are ahead of
him in the weight room; we have five DE assuming Pachan comes all the way back as we hope he does; DJ will make his presence felt as Diaz likes to send our DL after teams in waves)

8. Dallas (WR - Y/CB) and Bandy (CB-N) - Who doesn't love these guys? (Dallas' film shows him to be a really explosive playmaker and that's exactly what I think we can expect, along with a lot of trash talking; Bandy gives us an aggressive and physical nickel, where some question whether Dean is physical enough - physicality will not be an issue with Bandy; I think both play early and often)

9. Herbert (OL) (Good chance to get quality reps in year one also, but he will need to put in work in the weight room; after he does and gets coached up more I think he'll be a beast)

10. Harley (WR) (gives us another speedster who has demonstrated the ability to make big plays at the most critical times in games; looking forward to a 10 personnel grouping with Thomas, Dallas, Harley, and Richards; and either Walton or Homer in the backfield); that's four receivers who can score from anywhere on the field.

11. Feagles (P) (can’t overlook this guy. His film suggests he has a canon for a leg. Great bloodline and undoubtedly has had excellent coaching; he’ll help Badgley out this season)

Have to have at least three OL in each class... This should be the rule. That being said, 4-5 should be taken next year. Otherwise, I think the list is pretty solid. I would not mind 3 RBs though.

Love this class top 13 consensus
Rivals #11
Espn #12
247 #13

Slowly weeding out all the slugs, getting more Richt guys. Should see a big jump this year.

Not sure Scaife will stick which is OK. He projected as a center, if we take 2 I want one pure LT prospect and a guard/tackle prospect of we take 3 then keep Scaife.

Nice thing is that we're well setup to fill in our weakness the past 2 years (RB + CB) because both positions appear deep in the 2018 class and we will have playing time to offer. That is a very solid 2 year haul, and if we can win on the field this year I see no reason why this 2018 class can't be a truly elite, top 5 ranked, 30 player whole to truly "stack chips".

With our front 7 and receivers we're set up for a nice run back to prominence if we can establish a solid starting QB this year.
