2015-16 Canes Men's Tennis

Canes regrouped today and beat Florida Atlantic 5-2. At least they'll go the season without having to worry about a winless year. lol

LOL! I was 6-0 against FAU in singles at number 1, 2 and 4 singles, and 8-0 against them at number one doubles (played them a bunch, in match play and in NCAA tournaments)

5-2? Really? FAU? We bet them 9-0 every year!

Fly a Rincon banner ! Seriously!

Well, it's been about six weeks since my last update. As of now, the Canes have a 6-7 record and were actually ranked in the country after a very surprising win over No. 47 Florida State, their first win over FSU since 2011. But they also lost to Middle Tennessee. They just lost to Duke and UNC last weekend. Next up is Boston College which they should win but that could be the last win of the season as the other ACC teams look too tough. That would leave the Canes with a 7-16 record and another year of missing the NCAA tournament.

The men barely beat ACC bottom-feeder 4-3 and then lost to Notre Dame 2-5. They now stand at 7-8.

Well, the men's team got slammed by Virginia Tech so they now stand at 8-13 (3-8 ACC). They play No. 1 Virginia in their last regular season match and then one more match in the ACC tournament. So their record will end at 8-15 and their 5th consecutive of year of not making the NCAA tournament. Before this, the Canes had never missed more than two seasons in a row. As for recruiting, there is nothing reported. No blue chip, 5-star or even 4-star recruits have signed on with Miami. Sad state of affairs continue in Miami...
Meanwhile, the women are doing great. They are ranked 7th with a 16-4 (11-2 ACC) record.

With your recruiting comment, you appear to be tacitly implying that it won't get any better in the next 3-4 years with the current boss...Correct?

I was going to let him go.....just a matter of time before the administration hates tennis and all sports and Miami in general fails at life.....

Maybe I am grossly incorect, but I have gotten the impression that Kirijax thought Rincon was an adequate to good HC for men's Tennis. I value his opinion since he does tennis coaching for a living and want to see what he thinks, hence the "leading" question.

Blake got the message and is now showing he expects performance at least on the level of Coach L (I have a soft spot for Wikipedia and Doc Rivers now)...lets see if that goes for ALL sports.

Rincon is a great guy and seems to really care about the players under his care. HOWEVER, as a recruiter, it's been downhill for a while. I have no idea what the cause is. I heard that ****son was a good recruiter but not seeing that either. They just got creamed 7-0 by Viginia and will face Virginia Tech (who beat us 6-1 a couple days ago) so the season is almost over. And to answer CaneFan79's question, I don't see it getting any better. They improved just a smidgen this year but they are far away from being at the level to win a match in the ACC tournament. More of the same next year.

That sucks. You have your finger on the pulse of UM tennis......seems like UM due to location would have better tennis than VA schools, but I don't know a **** thing about it.

Since athletics is moving in the right direction as a whole, do you see a possibility where Rincon is replaced?

No. I'll be surprised if it happens.

Thanks. :(

Well, that's that. No. 36 VT sweeps Miami 4-0 to end the Canes season. The Canes finish the season at 8-15 and unranked. The drought is now at 5 years and will probably continue.

The women are ranked No. 7 and will start their ACC Championship Tournament today against No. 27 Syracuse.

Kirijax It's a new day in America!

Well, it's been five weeks and still no word on the new coaching staff. Will take some time I suppose. I thought they might have had someone lined up and were waiting for the NCAAs to finish before announcing but nothing.

AD Kirijax, at this stage of the game who would you hire?
