So not only their own playbook they had to lnow the opponents plays? That's even worse.
In the old days, TEs and RBs had to know the blocking assignments of the OL on each play as well. Frank Gore was lobbying for PT early on and Coach Sol told him he needed to know the playbook before he could get some burn....so Frank stayed up until 3:30 am the next morning studying the playbook and then called Coach Sol at 3:30 am to tell him he knew the playbook & was ready to take the field. Frank & the other greats were hard core, man. That's one reason why he's a surefire NFL HOF RB.

Pre-injury (as a Freshman), Frank was electric. Had he not been injured so severely, I think he would have gained more yards in the NFL than Emmitt Smith.

That Lamar Thomas show with Coach Soldinger and Alonzo was one of the best CFB shows I've ever watched. It's "must see" stuff for any Canes fan. Coach Soldinger was amazing on the show. When Coker threw Coach Sol under the bus (after the Peach Bowl), it stripped a big part of the heart out of the Miami Hurricanes Football program. Was one of the worst decisions ever. Coach Sol is absolute Miami Hurricane Football treasure and was a great RB coach & very strong as a Special Teams coach. Can we please bring him back (even if it's only for a few years)? The man is amazing, he worked 19-20 hours a day (except Thursdays & Fridays) & bleeds O&G. Watch that Lamar Thomas show & you'll understand why we've never been the same since Coach Sol & Coach Kehoe left.
