The team just gave up after the West Virginia loss. They had no desire to play in a meaningless bowl game.
The practices leading up to the bowl game (just like the season before) were poor, and Erickson just didn't have the team mentally ready to play in that game. It didn't help that Bryce Erickson got suspended for the game after getting involved in an altercation the night before after curfew. Dennis didn't sleep at all that night and you can tell at kickoff that Dennis was a mess and just wanted the game to be over with.
And it was bad matchup for Miami. That Tedy Bruschi led Arizona team had a dominant D. Miami's OL was a joke in '93. Even if the team was actually motivated, Miami needed to have brought its A game in order to beat a top 10 Arizona squad that was basically playing a home game.
