The cost of college skyrocketed bc the government got involved in loans and number of administrators keeps rising along with their salaries. Add that to new construction and you get we have now. Tax payers are footing that bill. You missed the angle of my post - the revenue of athletics used to be spread around more within the school.....other sports, buildings, maintenance, funds, etc. Each year that is reduced as those funds are used more and more for those athletic sports. That money to maintain other sports, infrastructure, etc has to come from somewhere. We have all seen the cost of colleges skyrocket the last 5-10 years. Enrollment increases have not been enough to offset the costs. For many, it doesn't even make sense to accumulate that level of debt when entry jobs out there aren't enough to pay back the loans. If the numbers transition to more trade schools, community colleges, etc and enrollment stalls/decreases, school costs will continue to rise exponentially unless offset by more grants (taxes), donations (tax credits) or other forms of income.
I know many feel sports income/costs, taxes and overall college costs aren't linked. They absolutely are. There's a lot of creative accounting in every business and colleges are no different. The cost at Penn State has roughly doubled since i've been there. Medical costs are a big reason but anyone walking around that campus and sees the rest of the costs - new buildings, integrated tech, roads, arena and overall operating costs.
If they pull out from the yearly 20-30m commitment, this program is a wrap. I don’t think that’s the case especially if they get their guy (mario). If Mario comes, I have no doubt they’ll pour that 20-30m number into the program and if things bear fruit on the field, it will go up from there.
I do agree about Oregon and find it interesting that they haven’t extended. My opinion is that Oregon does not overspend on their coach. Look at the history of their hires - they’re mostly in house and affordable. That appears to be their MO.
Finally, I do think we’ll be in the 100m market for a coach. That’s the market. Mario MAY be able to get a 8-9m gig but that’s right there at the 100m mark.
This is getting out of control. Those extra millions are typically passed on to the student population by raising tuition fees. With hyper inflation becoming inevitable, I just don’t see this ending well for a majority of universities.
Here’s something I don’t think we’ve discussed: at what point are we overpaying for Mario? Obviously very few (if any) know the details of the contract and if it’s changed given last night’s whirlwind, so what do you think he deserves?
Good. Hello Lane Kiffin. !!!!!Phil Knight is going to ***** us six ways from Sunday. He can buy and sell most of the Canes BOT.
Good. Hello Lane Kiffin. !!!!!
To go away?Give Manny 17M a year.
Miami BOT: hold my beer!LSU severely overpaid for an above average coach. SEVERELY.
We need to get about 1.5 at least invested in recruiting...big money on staff and facilities alone will not get it done. They didn’t necessarily say how theyy we’re spending the 20-30. They just said an extra 20-30. for staff salaries, that’s good. for facilities, it’s nothing.
Well, it sounds to me like Jumbo needs a raise!15??? How are schools going to keep up with this smh. I thought Jimbo had a ridiculous contract.
if people think lane isn’t gonna be asking for close to 10 if not that number from us I got a beach house I can sell you in IdahoSince all you can porst about is Lane Kiffin, why don't you tell us what "bargain basement price" Lane will charge UM for the privilege of his services.
And give me five seconds, I'm going to chug some soda that I can spit out on my keyboard once you reply...
I don't see us getting to 8-9 per for Mario. I think all the reports were top end 7. I do think it may take that much to get him though if they haven't figured out the financials and nothing is signed.
He will be gone by year 3. ND barely beat FSU week 1 when FSU was God awful.A coach who’s never won a championship just made 15 million a year. He was reportedly making 3 million at ND. Well if that doesn’t completely ***** the market and make our 20-30 million dollar investment look like nothing.

The funny part, by terms of his contract, Nick Saban will now become the highest paid coach in FBS. So it just gets dumber and dumber money in college football.15??? How are schools going to keep up with this smh. I thought Jimbo had a ridiculous contract.
