15 million

Tax payers pay less than $1 million of any coaches salary. I actually don’t think any state pays more than $500,000. Boosters, endorsements, etc. make up the actual salary.

You missed the angle of my post - the revenue of athletics used to be spread around more within the school.....other sports, buildings, maintenance, funds, etc. Each year that is reduced as those funds are used more and more for those athletic sports. That money to maintain other sports, infrastructure, etc has to come from somewhere. We have all seen the cost of colleges skyrocket the last 5-10 years. Enrollment increases have not been enough to offset the costs. For many, it doesn't even make sense to accumulate that level of debt when entry jobs out there aren't enough to pay back the loans. If the numbers transition to more trade schools, community colleges, etc and enrollment stalls/decreases, school costs will continue to rise exponentially unless offset by more grants (taxes), donations (tax credits) or other forms of income.

I know many feel sports income/costs, taxes and overall college costs aren't linked. They absolutely are. There's a lot of creative accounting in every business and colleges are no different. The cost at Penn State has roughly doubled since i've been there. Medical costs are a big reason but anyone walking around that campus and sees the rest of the costs - new buildings, integrated tech, roads, arena and overall operating costs.

Rumor had it LSU was broke a couple of years ago. Which is why the settled for O. Now they pay $15mm a year. Ok. Guess no one is ever really broke.

A coach who’s never won a championship just made 15 million a year. He was reportedly making 3 million at ND. Well if that doesn’t completely ***** the market and make our 20-30 million dollar investment look like nothing.
Pay Herman 6 mil and I'm happy

I don't disagree but it's still Brian Kelly. Brock has a point, LSU had to make a splash hire after getting posterized by USC. Kelly may be able to get over the hump at LSU, time will tell. Seems like an odd fit to me.
The academic standards certainly just got lowered for Kelly's players

He’s not taking a hometown discount when right now is the best time to get a crazy raise negotiated, and when he’d be leaving a program he’s recruited all of his own guys, gets 24/7 access to the private jet, and would have to be rebuilding Miami.

I’m not saying it’s impossible that we get him, but we’d have to throw baaaags at his feet

I think Lane would come for less but the guys above are right that the longer and crazier contracts get, the more we’ll have to pay up.

I agree in general and don't get too dismayed by the private jet stuff. Miami can provide that without an issue. ****, Alf Gluten got that when he got here 10 years ago.

This is getting out of control. Those extra millions are typically passed on to the student population by raising tuition fees. With hyper inflation becoming inevitable, I just don’t see this ending well for a majority of universities.

Miami taking so long is really going to hurt them financially.. the more and more of these insane contracts they give out.. then the more money they’ll have to over pay for the next coach..
Not when the contract is already signed, sealed, and delivered.

I'm guessing that library with the moldy walls isn't getting fixed for the next 10 years or so.
Savings.... Instead of two brooms in the broom closet they'll have one
