ill wait and see as to anymore and if its a yearly 20-30 or just a one time thing. That 20-30m amount is not for anything capex. That’s all opex (support staff, etc).
When I first heard 20-30m number being thrown around, I interpreted that as being the minimum. If they’re offering that much right out of the gate, I’m sure raising it to $40m is in their plans. Jmo
he can recruit but yes it seems like a weird fit. either way, LSU got turned down multiple times during multiple searches so they hd to throw the bank at someone high profile.I don't disagree but it's still Brian Kelly. Brock has a point, LSU had to make a splash hire after getting posterized by USC. Kelly may be able to get over the hump at LSU, time will tell. Seems like an odd fit to me.
Actually, 2 coaches who never won a National Championship.
And that would ruin college football. NFL guys aren’t making that kind of money in private business, so state employees will for colleges as tuition skyrockets and kids mortgage their future with student loans? If head coaches are getting 10-15 mil a year, I fully expect the good coordinators to get 3-5 a year
And the best position coaches/recruiters to get 1-3 a year
Tax payers pay less than $1 million of any coaches salary. I actually don’t think any state pays more than $500,000. Boosters, endorsements, etc. make up the actual salary. And that would ruin college football. Most schools have total revenue less than than $30-50M. I saw numbers from 2019 that showed only 36 schools had revenue of $50M+, but even with that, after expenditures (medical staff, support staff, travel, etc), profit could be low. Clemson expenditures were reportedly $55M, FSU just as high.
The big schools spend $40-60M on football each year, so they still make $30-60M in profit if they are hitting the $80-100M total revenue. So if big schools (maybe 20?) are already making more in profit than most schools have in total revenue, you can say goodbye to competitive college football as that gap continues.…..as well as any most other sports funded by football. Who’s going to foot the bill of this arms race, tax payers? Athletic profits used to go back into the entire school, not just that sport. Plus now the Title IX thing. College costs are a mess. A school like West Virginia made almost no profit while their bball program ran at a deficit of $2M. That will be more than norm, not Bama, UGA, etc

overall, I don't see us competing in the 100 mill plus contract ranges that Tucker (slightly under), Kelly and Riley got. like I said when USC hired Riley, the only thing similar is that were private schools in large cities. everything else isn't the same. they have more resources nd always did.
that isn't to say we can't get a quality coach for our ranges, we can. we should get Mario but if he wins Saturday (this is if hes saying that he will wait to leave once his season is over), it may take more than 6-8 mill if Oregon is desperate in their attempt to keep him though. I do find it interesting that no extension was announced (we saw one w tucker and Franklin). maybe hes told Oregon that hes gone and they will wait to announce after the p12 game to avoid a media circus? (that's wishful thinking on my part)
If they pull out from the yearly 20-30m commitment, this program is a wrap. I don’t think that’s the case especially if they get their guy (mario). If Mario comes, I have no doubt they’ll pour that 20-30m number into the program and if things bear fruit on the field, it will go up from there.
I do agree about Oregon and find it interesting that they haven’t extended. My opinion is that Oregon does not overspend on their coach. Look at the history of their hires - they’re mostly in house and affordable. That appears to be their MO.
Finally, I do think we’ll be in the 100m market for a coach. That’s the market. Mario MAY be able to get a 8-9m gig but that’s right there at the 100m mark.
I think everyone flinched when Miami said the were making a $20 to 30mm investment. This is out of control. They want to ensure we never come back. I can only imagine what Kiffin will be offered by Ole Miss or what Oregon will offer christobal. Everyone just tripled their salaries overnight. We thought we were ****ed before, this is coffin naildriving stuff.A coach who’s never won a championship just made 15 million a year. He was reportedly making 3 million at ND. Well if that doesn’t completely ***** the market and make our 20-30 million dollar investment look like nothing.
I don't see us getting to 8-9 per for Mario. I think all the reports were top end 7. I do think it may take that much to get him though if they haven't figured out the financials and nothing is signed.
They won't.15??? How are schools going to keep up with this smh. I thought Jimbo had a ridiculous contract.
Contract actually 10 years 95 million$15 million is a lot of money for a weird fit. This has potential to blow up in their faces.
He’s not taking a hometown discount when right now is the best time to get a crazy raise negotiated, and when he’d be leaving a program he’s recruited all of his own guys, gets 24/7 access to the private jet, and would have to be rebuilding Miami. Before MSU screwed everything up, I was firmly in the "we get Mario for 6-7m". But now, that's not gonna do it. Maybe $8m. The reality is that the market is no longer justifying 6-7m. I don't buy the "hometown discount" stuff but we'll see. Anything is possible especially if the lowered salary is offset by an increase in coordinator salaries.
Total and complete bull. If dude is getting $15 million a year USC GROSSLY overpaid for him. Doesn't mean we have to match it and watch no other school match that for anybody.Canes football showing up to the Gucci store with Walmart gift cards yet again
