We’re going to do the “Indiana is or isn’t a better team” dance for the next 8 months, so may as well get ahead of this now.
14.1% postgame win expectancy for them.
We should’ve won that game, obviously. This one will sting for a long time. It’s certainly not quite 1986, but that should’ve been #6.
Indiana beat us gaining 317 yards, and Mendoza had his worst game of the season. They were also 6/16 on 3rd down, after being the best 3rd down team of the past decade for the season.
Were they the better team? Yeah, because they didn’t give up a blocked punt and we did. But it’s crazy, I posted a few times they won all their games against the good teams with very low yardage totals. Mainly because they don’t do anything to beat themselves. And this one played out the exact same way.
The one thing I cant figure out is how Indiana pushed Miami's D off the ball like they did especially in the 2nd half. What were they doing schematically as no team did this to us all year? It was mind boggling.
I was surprised we didn't get more push up front on our OL against their DL. Outside a couple nice runs from fletcher, indiana hung tough all night. I thought we had an advantage going into game due to our size and strength I thought.
There was one play where we hit Mendoza from behind just as he threw the ball otherwise if it was split second sooner it would have been a fumble and could have changed the momentum.
It seemed like it was just Indiana's year. Yes i agree miami should have won. Losing Lucas in first half, Brown again for whole game, our offense just came out slow the 1st half, if Lofton doesnt get hurt, maybe we don't give up that punt block. I think bauman whiffed on the missed block.
The one thing that hurt us that wasnt on the stat sheet, we lacked that one extra game breaker receiver like Jo Jo Trader who just hasn't been able to put it together to help take pressure off Toney, Daniels, etc. It could have helped in some of those drives in 1st half when we couldnt move the ball or get 1st downs.
I would not be surprised to see Jo jo in portal after season. He has been disappointing.
I think indiana was very well coached but we fought hard to come back so we have to give Mario and Dawson credit for that.
I actually thought miami had a reasonable chance to win at end and I really was surprised how poorly Beck threw that ball to Marion at end. I mean we were in their territory and had enough time but Beck just made an awful throw on that. It was like we were just not supposed to win. Just totally deflating and disappointing.
It was embarrassing how well Indiana fans showed up at our stadium. I was there and Indiana seemed to have more fans.
To get that far and close and lose was really disappointing and deflating but these miami kids fought hard so they deserve a lot of credit for a great season.
Lastly, maybe I missed him but how did Jakobe thomas play? It seemed he was quiet for most of game.
Go Canes!
