We get the #1 JUCO TE

FSU gets the #1 TE in the nation

:stephenahand:

really weak, actually ******* embarrassingly bad

get better and try again with your negative bull****

The best response to the currently undefeated defending national champ getting the #1 TE for a 6-6 team would pretty much be one of the top remaining options - like say the best Juco TE

Beau Sandland?

Would have been good with Kaaya throwing him the ball.. SteMO.. not so much..

Yeap, Kaaya is a money maker for TEs. Watching 30 for 30 reminded me of all the big plays our TEs made. All the way back to Dennsion in the 1st NC. Brad makes those throws,

Got 4 years to play 4.... will develop n be a Better TE than Sandland....

And even better than Ivan Mercer?

Sandland wasnt a great athlete. Washington has 4 years of eligibility because it was a club team at his JUCO. he is always coming in in Jan.

FSU signs 4/5 star #1 TE in 2011 (Nick O'Leary), U.S. Army All-American, etc.
Miami signs 3 star Clive Walford in 2010. #43 TE, Not ranked etc.

4 years later, O'Leary had to steal the Mackey from Walford... not bad for a 3 star basketball player.

O’Leary and Walford each have 40 catches. Walford’s have gone for 627 yards and seven scores, O’Leary for 465 yards and three touchdowns. Williams has 25 receptions for 373 yards and seven TDs.

You can hate all you want but the fact remains that Miami has developed some of the best TE period. Here are the guys since 2000 draft.

2014 Clive Walford
2013 Asante Cleveland, FA (Back up in SF)*
2013 Erik Swoope, FA (PS for Colts)*
2012 Chase Ford JUCO, FA (starter for Vikings)*
2011 Richard Gordon, 6th round Draft pick by Raiders (Back up for Chiefs)*
2010 Jimmy Graham, 3rd round pick by Saints (All Pro for Saints)*
2010 Dedrick Epps, 7th round pick by Chargers (3 years in the NFL)
2010 Tervaris Johnson, FA (with Chiefs for 2 years)
2009 Chris Zellner, FA (Bucs Camp)
2007 Greg Olsen, 1st Round pick, (Starter for Panthers)*
2006 Buck Ortega, FA (4 years in the NFL)
2005 Kevin Everett JUCO, 3rd round pick for Bills (2 years in NFL, Injured)
2004 Kellen Winslow Jr., 1st round pick (1 Pro Bowl, 9 years in NFL)
2002 Jeremy Shockey JUCO, 1st round pick (4 Pro Bowls, 10 years in NFL)
2001 Ivan Mercer, FA
2000 Daniel "Bubba" Franks, 1st round pick (Pro Bowler)
2000 Mondriel Fulcher, 7th round pick (5 years in the NFL)

Starters at UM in bold
14 NFL TEs
9 draft picks (Winslow, Franks, Shockey, Olsen, Gordon, Graham, Fulcher, Everett, Epps)
6 Starters in the NFL (Graham, Winslow, Franks, Shockey, Olsen, Ford)
6 active TE in the NFL (Graham, Olsen, Ford, Gordon, Cleveland, Swoope)
4 1st round picks (Winslow, Franks, Shockey, Olsen)
4 Pro Bowlers (Graham, Winslow, Franks, Shockey)

Oleary is a very good college player. Walford will be the better pro if he can control his fumbles.

Sandland was capable of being a great Pass-Catching TE...

He simply got his *** whooped in the trenches too much, to deserve being on the field.

herdon and njoku can be players here too. kind of exciting to see what we have at that position.

It's also not a position of need. It would be cool to bring in MORE studs on defense for the next coach.

Im not convinced that coach golden thinks so.

My question: Why take a juco TE with our current roster? The only answer I can come up with is that coach golden is not convinced that either Jake O or Chris Herndon will be ready for prime time next fall.

Or Dobard or Njoku?

Golden is not the best judge of talent either.

Sandland is gone bro...

This is a good take. We lose Clive this year. Stan, O'Donnel and Gray are all going to be Juniors next year. Stan is the only guy that will play out of that group. Herndon will be a SO and can be moved to FB to provide depth. Njoku will be playing his first year at TE and will need to add weight and learn the position.

Washington can come in right away and compete for the #2 job, he will also have 4 years so in 2 years when Stan leaves, it will be just Washington (JR), Herndon (SR) and Njoku (JR). We also use a lot of 2 TE sets so we need at least 3-4 healthy TE on the roster at all times.

This is what we have coming back next year at TE:
JR: Stan Dobard: 4.97 40 (4.88 best), 4.67 20, 15 reps of 225, 430 squat, 286 power clean, 350 bp
SO: Chris Herndon: 4.82 40 (4.79 best), 4.62 20, 17 reps of 225
rFR:David Njoku: 4.76 40 (4.67 best), 4.64 20, nine reps of 225, 275 power clean, 35.5 vert

rJR:Jake O'Donnell: Didn't test in running events, 18 reps of 225, 335 bp
rJR: Gray Crow: 5.32 40 (5.26 best), 4.76 20, eight reps of 225, 365 squat, 252 power clean, 280 bp, 26 vert
