#1 2026 WR Tristen Keys breaks down his Official Visit to Miami with CIS

Yeah, and people read way too much into this player version of "coach-speak" and all the post-visit platitudes you get in an interview like this where he's talking to a site that are fans of the school he just visited. Of course it's gonna be a biased and positive report.

At the end of the day it's a kid from Mississippi who grew up in the south and around SEC country—and is he willing to leave that environment; small town football here in college town, playing in front of packed SEC fanbases weekly—to come down to HardRock for a few good home games a year, four dogs and a few ACC road trips, while nowhere near that big fish in a little pond as Hurricanes football will forever compete with the Dolphins, Panthers, Heat, Marlins, South Beach, a crazy nightlife, influencer culture, celebrity, big money everywhere, etc.

The city and school ain't for everyone.

A shame that a Jeremiah Smith "got away" as a local kid as he'd have been a Cane if Miami was in better shape at the time, but a top receiver from Hattiesburg, Mississippi deciding to buck the trend and bail the SEC for Coral Gables (when already an LSU commit) ... that is a tough pull and certainly isn't a "loss" if Cristobal can't flip him.
If recruits that commit elsewhere aren't considered losses, then who is?

I cant see him decommitting from LSU or leaving the SEC for that matter. I've been wrong on this recruitment though, I thought it would be Ole MIss to be honest. I'd love to see him at the U. Fingers crossed. If you haven't joined Canes Connection. Hop on Board.

Big dog?

I'm not sure I'd say that. Those schools can all ante up
The current narrative is our nil game is out of control. To I personally believe that, no. But I don’t see us losing many bidding wars if we don’t want to.

But having billionaires writing nil checks is a lot different than old school bag game.

If Miami has the budget and means to pay kids (like all the top tier programs) then how is it “out of control?” Only salty coaches and fans say that ****.

So if we flip him them we lose him only then he's a loss? Only then he's a loss?

Then agree to disagree, but imo if Mario says "hey guys we couldn't flip him cross him off the board" I am pretty sure to them its a loss. To the fan maybe its not a loss, to me if you target someone and put every ounce of effort and have to replace them with some BS its a loss IMO. So agree to disagree.....fair I guess. I think to you its not a loss and to me it is, so if someone says it isn't or is a loss it depends who we asking. Fair? Also no one is ever ours till they sign even if committed but I would say we still lost him
This is fair! I look at time and effort as the job and just recruiting. I mean you have to put more time and effort to your committed players than kids you want to commit. We gonna spend a **** ton of resources on Cantwell to just keep him.

Cantwell is as a lock as a lock can be imo, he doesn't seem like a guy that is about to play games.

I don’t think it is. I’m speaking to the outside narrative of our nil set up. It’s not our fault billionaires became personally invested once Mario got hired. We are literally doing what every single program in the country would do if they could.

Gotcha. Those guys are the reason he is here. Hence, why i say fans better pray to whatever god they believe in Mario works out here.

What every single big program in the country has been doing for decades*

Sure but they still have to put major resources in him to keep him and feel like a priority.
Mario is definitely calling his family and him everyday keeping that relationship natural. That's what those types of coaches do, the NIL is set there is nothing to talk about on that end. Kirby fked up, he may be good with recruiting but letting the UM NIL number out showed that he's a snitch and it got UGA out the race. I know Cantwell was like I cant mess with people like that, if Kirby kept his mouth shut he would of had a better chance IMO. He killed himself when he did that and put us into a better spot. Showed that Mario was honest and wasn't going to put that kids business out there. Beat Kirby at his own game

"like all the top tier programs" is the key. Nothing crazy going on here other than competing at the highest level.

The only "out of control" part is this little private school has the audacity to pay players like the big blue bloods do. How dare us

I would pass on Tristen Keys and focus on Vance Stafford. That kid is fast, good hands, and many moves that would drive a CB crazy. Needless to say much less money too.
