.02 cent Wrap Up on CFB Weekend

I think our defense had a wake up call. It will be interesting how we react and rebound after a somewhat of an OK defense performance.

Did we deflect any passes yesterday? Only one sack? We didn't look like a top 5 front 7. Only pressure on the QB was from the blitz, that's concerning.

I'm also not sold on O-line, we gave up one sack and more than enough QB hurries. If Kayaa was in there, their sack total would have been embarrassing.

That defense looked like Manny's 2nd year at Texas. Hopefully the trend doesn't continue to follow. One of the reasons I was so hesitant on Diaz is he does play a little like Doritos defense. He give you all the hitches and slants you want trying not to give up the deep ball in return we get beat in the TOP stat. Need to stop playing prevent hoping the offense will mess up and attack and make them mess up

Didn't want to say this, but not going to lie...this was exactly my thoughts as well.

I thought the OL did very well. Several times Rosier was just sitting back there counting 1000's. But the holding calls were a bit excessive. They opened up gaping holes for the run game. I just need Richt to do a better job getting Thomas and Harley into the pass game. We didn't utilize them properly. If a DB is playing 10 yards off, OK, go ahead and hit them with that quick, behind the line of scrimmage pass. But if there is a 7 yard cushion, let them hit on a quick slant.

Missing a huge word for both sides of the ball. Vanilla.

Baloney with the vanilla nonsense. The missing word was fundamentals.

Also, what did that article say (which appeared a couple of days ago) about what Diaz learned from his Texas time: tenacity and tackling. You can add those words to the list.

Quick Hitters:
-Pls continue to overrank FSU; it's their Achilles heel
-Cam Akers AIN'T Dalvin Cook....like at all
-Coastal looks like ours for the taking
-Bama still can't throw a fwd pass, but the def still looks strong (still see a vulnerability covering TE's in the flat)
-Now we see y UF doesn't schedule their 1st game against a top 25 opponent. UF stinks.....like literally. I'd be surprised if they won 6 this yr.
-Clemson still looks like, well, like Clemson.
-LaMar Jackson looks poised to defend the Heisman
-Michigan won, but still feel overrated and a sacrificial lamb for OSU
-I expect UGA to fall out the top 25 sooner than later
-Texas has a new coach w the same results
-Kaaya and Yearby both made head scratching decisions

Our game:

Joaquin said dominate and we not doing it! Oy Vey on that game.

Positives:
-Walton and Homer. Told ya'll they may become the best 1-2 duo in the nation.
-Rosier extending and making plays. A couple of times where he escaped would've been a sack if Kaaya is still here
-Langham and Cager
-OL
-Mr Carter
-Mr Young

Negatives:
-The middle of the field being open.
-Not enough pressure created
-Dee Delaney
-Still struggling to impose our will to shorten the field
-The deep ball (way too much air and those would've been ints against better comp)
-Not exploiting the middle of the field on slants

All in and all, I give us a C+ today. No way BCU should've scored on their 1st drive. No way they should've had 116 yrds in the 3rd qtr...we should've been able to hang, at least, 56 on them and be in their back field at will. More discipline is needed, and I'm just happy we played like this against a BCU. I'm going to assume we took this game for granted, but at least it gives the staff something to humble these fine young men to stop listening to the hype and to do their jobs like everyone know they can.

upvote and on the money except you forgot one negative that DEFINITELY needs fixing before this week...the flats. They were wide open all day because Diaz was blitzing.Either stop blitzing every down( shouldn't have to to get pressure against these teams if we are as good as advertised across the front) or bring the CBs up and take the chance the QB doesn't have time to beat you deep.Cant play off the WR and blitz.

Sorry for the hijack!!

No apologies needed. You're exactly right. When I said the middle being wide open, I was referring to our defense being exploited in the flats. They were overly aggressive, AND undisciplined. Literally, I'm looking and calling out the open man b/c you had 7 some times all 8 guys (on the blitz)chasing one direction and you had a RB wide open or a WR wide open in the flats. Smh. It was extremely disgusting.

Lack of sacks yesterday was due to BC quick passing game and lots of misdirection IMO

So our db's couldn't cover for two seconds ? I mean it was a quick passing game.

There were guys running free over the short middle just about every play. The CBs were in zone half the time. The plan seemed to be that their QB would panic, not identify the open guy, or throw a bad pass. That did't happen.

My hope is that going forward, we show blitzes and back out, or play tighter coverage when we blitz. Riskier, because against bethune everything was in front of the D. They were never going to beat us deep, and so could never win. But that will lead to more three and outs.

Watching Malik attempt to block by curling up in a fetal position on the Jumbotron, was definitely the low point of the day. This guy is not a starter he's more comfortable holding a clipboard, let's be honest here. All that time backing up kaaya and you ain't ready? Come on now! Let's hope Nkosi is prepped and ready to go.

Evidently they can't when they're giving a 10 yard cushion.

I've went back and watched some of the replay , still early but I had to pause. What I did notice was alot of it was schematic, more than personnel ( even though guys were beaten). Diaz got way too cute , we were outnumbered wr vs db. Which made the flares and quick throws easier. The huge cushions also didn't help , which blew my mind.

We were beaten in pre snap a few times , just on alignment/formation.

Diaz got worked yesterday , the bcu oc was a step ahead. Which I don't know if that makes me feel any better.

My favorite Rosier play was at 5:45 left in 3rd the pocket broke down, Rosier ducks one defender, bounces off another and picks up 5 yds. Previous QB would've sacked himself.

I kinda get the lack of sacks quick short routes n all. But the lack of deflected passes shocks me more. I'm expecting a good performance this sat against Arky st.

looked like he was trying to reinact that trent green play when he was on the fins lol

Hard to watch sometimes think we looked better last year because he didn't install everything so is was simpler to play in

Absolutely need to stop the redzone penalties. Killed us more than just about anything last year.

dumb post. It looked awkward and may become a meme but we don't need our starter at Qb throwing a block in that particular situation in a non close game. It's no indication of being "ready".

I'm all for supporting whoever is starting. But we also can't kid ourself here. It's not gonna happen with Malik. It is what it is 🤷🏽

I agree it was schematic. What I don't get is "where were the adjustments"?

At halftime, during the game day thread, everyone's saying Diaz will adjust, half time adjustments were one thing he was good at last year. Then when BC gets the ball after our first drive it was the same crap.

That's the one thing that makes me lean toward the "not showing your hand" angle. Diaz was a master at halftime adjustments all last year. Seriously we gave up something ridiculous like 6 ppg in the 2nd half last year. You can't tell me he just forgot how to make adjustments all of a sudden.
