🚨🚨Official Miami-FSU Week Thread🚨🚨

Anyone else getting D’nofrio vibes (or however tf you spell that ****ers name) from Tony White? I feel like his defense is good against anyone that can’t run the ball, but anyone that has a run game can pound the rock. Idk, I’m no expert.

Don't disagree, but what do you think is the reason they were able to beat a talented team like Bama?
Like the midget QB said this aint Saban's Alabama teams. Not the same discipline and preparation. On Defense couldn't generate pressure and lacked overall physicality. On Offense Stopped running the ball even though they had early success. Left some plays on the field QB first start on the road missed some throws. There's no run away teams in college football this year. Any game could be your day if you don't bring it.

Really good breakdown of the game

Yup. A lot of my thoughts exactly. Who is FSU on defense? The team who pushed Bama around? Or the team who UVA had on skates all night? They’ve only played 2 games and had very different performances. Who are they really?

Also, that run game. We all expect it to be a challenge. It’s been good every week. But again, UVA is NOT Miami from a physical standpoint. Not even close. How bout Bama? Know what Bama is in defensive yards per carry allowed? 71st in America. That ain’t a Nick Saban defense. UGA just got them for 6.88 a carry last week. And everyone says fsu ran all over them. They did have success. But they ended the day at 4.69 a rush. Not spectacular.

I just think this game comes down to exactly what Mario wants this team to be. Markedly better on both lines. Usually, the team markedly better on both lines wins over the course of 60 minutes. I thing Miami has a major edge against FSU’s OL. And I think they have a major edge against FSU’s DL. It’s hard to overcome that, especially when you (fsu) don’t have another area of expertise to lean on. Bama beat UGA despite getting outperformed up front on both sides because Ty Simpson was awesome, especially in the first half. I don’t think Castellanos is able to win this game with his arm. So if our area of strength is matched up with your area of strength, and we’re much stronger, well, good luck.

This game being at Doak is the only thing that concerns me. If it was at Hard Rock I’d confidently say we beat them by 2 scores or more. But road games are tricky. We see it every week around the country, and we’ve seen it with this program **** near every year. Both losses last year on the road as a favorite. I know this team is different, but D said as much on the pod yesterday. For those of us who have watched hundreds and hundreds of games in our lives, how many times have we seen home team dogs upset more talented teams?

I’m just so interested to see how the team responds to being on the road for the first time, and who fsu actually is. I can make a case for them being good, but I can also make a case for them being a middle of the road ACC team. They’ve showed both sides clearly this early in the year. But I just keep coming back to, we do what they do, but better. We run the ball and we stop the run. I don’t think they have an equalizer for that in either an elite passing game on offense, and a shut down secondary where you can put kids on islands and load the box to stop our run game. And really, I’m not sure they can stop us even if they do stack it. I’m very confident that I know who Miami is. The only piece is what comes along on the road. I think we’ll know for sure who fsu is by the end of Saturday night. And my money is on them being who we thought they’d be all summer. A much improved team, but at the end of the day a 7-8 win ACC team and not nearly on Miami’s level. Can’t wait.

Lots of throat-clearing and bet-hedging.

Most pundits look to be avoiding appearing dumb after the fact.

This game has FSU collapse written all over it.
I agree. He hedged a lot on FSU being the wounded animal here. I’m not taking FSU lightly, but our edge in trenches cannot be overstated.

What we absolutely cannot do is disappear in quarters 2 & 3. Part of me wants us to just run it down their throats at will. But I’d open Beck up early. If our passing attack was even a fraction as lethal as it was last season I’d have no worries about Saturday. Make them have to respect Beck early and this game will be over by the third quarter.

I genuinely think they caught Bama with their pants around their ankles. The Bama I watched last Saturday is nowhere near the team FSU played.

I took it more as what I said above. FSU has played 2 games. One was Jekyll. One was Hyde. Miami had played 3 games. They’ve all been pretty much the same.

So I think most of these dudes who seem like they’re hedging are doing so because they don’t know who fsu is. And neither do I. I think I know, but I’m not supremely confident in the result either. I think we’ll win, because we’re better, but I’m not sprinting to the window to play some alt line where Miami wins by 10+, just because of the location and what fsu has shown. Again, I just think at the end of the day, physicality travels. And I think we’re the more physical team.

A lot of people were quick to jump on FSU being “back” after beating name brand bama… if(when) we beat them by double digits that bama game becomes flukey and just bad timing

FSU has to hit the big plays. Long, sustained drives play more into our hand. FSU doesn’t have the people movers we do offensively. And it’ll turn into a war of attrition. Eventually our body blows will kill them. Just like UF. And UF has a markedly better defense.

Taking sacks out of the equation, Bama ran for 102 yards on 26 carries. That’s 4 ypc. UVA ran for 221 on 46. 4.8 ypc. 4.5 ypc against P4 competition. Very middle of the pack. No reason we can’t get ours throughout the game.

Tony White has been a great DC for FSU and can potentially get a HC job after this season. He’s nothing like Doritos. FSU’s horrendous recruiting has finally caught up with them.

And this is while playing at least 2 offensive lines that I feel are much better than FSU’s

Pate said 21% of runs vs us this year have gone for 0 or fewer yards. I’d wager the other 79% aren’t going for 5 yards a clip. It’s paramount we limit Castellanos and his scrambling. Because keeping them in 3&6 or greater just to let him scramble will kill us. Luckily our best pass rushers have good bull rushes and collapse the pocket.

There’s a good chance this Miami team might be fraudulent. Here are three major reasons that might be the case.

For a homer piece, it's not terrible. I share some of the same concerns.

Point 3 though, nah. Stylistically it's a better matchup for them than Bama or UVA because Beck doesn't run? I do agree that Morris hurt them with his legs far more than Beck will, but even if you take Morris's numbers out, UVAs backs ran 40 times for 174 yards. That's 4.35 a carry, and that's running behind a UVA line missing 3 starters. Here comes Miami with way better line and better backs. Stylistically, your big concern coming into the year was your lack of bodies on your defensive front, and you've played no one even close to Miami in terms of punishing run games. I would argue this is a WORSE matchup for FSU, stylistically.

Point 2, obviously the offense is worse than last year. We all knew it would be. And I somewhat agree with buddy here, we haven't been great on offense yet. Is it because we're just not great? Or is it because ND and UiF are good defenses? We were great against USF. Where's fsu's talent and scheme? Closer to ND and UiF...or closer to USF?

Point 1 I do agree with. FSU will be the best offense we've played to date. Been saying it for 2 weeks. But again...who is FSU on offense? They have been good in every game, have they played a defense even in the same universe as Miami? They haven't faced a single rush defense in the top 50. Bama is 70th in the country in YPC allowed. UVA is in the 50s. Neither of those teams have been even close to as good at stopping the run as Miami.

Here are the 3 reasons fsu might be frauds with Miami coming to town:

1. They haven't faced a good defense yet. Bama is not a physical team and hasn't stopped the run, UVA is small and slow on defense.

2. The only good rushing offense they've played, they got pushed around. Bama hasn't run on anyone (they're 95th in rushing yards per game, and 83rd in yards per carry), the other 2 games don't count. UVA has a good offense, they moved FSU off the ball all night. Here comes one of the best running games in America.

3. FSU has one player in the passing game. If they can't run the way they've been running, and Lil Tommy has to throw it, Duce Robinson has 17 catches for 346 yards and 3 TDs. Their next FOUR receivers (I counted Lucas as a receiver...so him, Squirrel White, Danzy, and McCoy) have COMBINED for 18 catches, 365 yards, 0 TDs.
