I keep seeing the same tired take everywhere. “Miami can’t just let Carson Beck throw it.”
“You have to protect him.”
“If you put the game in his hands, he’ll give it away.”

That narrative is honestly getting sickening. People talk about Beck like he’s some limited quarterback who can’t win you a game with his arm. Like if Miami lets him operate the offense, it automatically means turnovers and trouble. But when you actually look at his production compared to other top quarterbacks, WTF are they talking about? Especially when you look at the numbers.

Julian Sayin (Ohio State)
3610 yards, 32 TDs, 8 INTs, 88.4 QBR

Fernando Mendoza (Indiana, Heisman winner)
3172 yards, 36 TDs, 6 INTs, 89.5 QBR

Diego Pavia (Vanderbilt, Heisman finalist)
3539 yards, 29 TDs, 8 INTs, 87.2 QBR

Dante Moore (Oregon)
3280 yards, 28 TDs, 9 INTs, 79.0 QBR

Trinidad Chambliss
3660 yards, 21 TDs, 3 INTs, 86.8 QBR

Now Carson Beck
3313 yards, 27 TDs, 10 INTs, 81.8 rating

Beck is right there with every one of these guys in yardage. He’s within a couple touchdowns of Moore and Pavia. His interception total is not some wild outlier for a quarterback who’s actually asked to throw the ball and move the offense. Yet somehow he’s the one being framed as “you can’t trust him, you have to protect him.”

What really gets me is how people act like Miami has to hide him, like letting Beck run the offense is a liability. Meanwhile, quarterbacks with nearly identical production are being praised as dynamic, fearless, “put the game in his hands” guys.

Beck isn’t some reckless passer just chucking it into coverage. He’s a rhythm and timing QB who reads the field, works the intermediate game, and keeps the offense on schedule. Is he perfect? No. But pretending he can’t beat you with his arm is crazy work

People act like he is an inaccurate QB, with 6 touchdowns 12 picks

You also have to remember that alot of his detractors are SEC shills who are mad he left.

Heres the thing and @DMoney alludes to it when he mentions his record.

His stats are gaudy because all he does is out his team in a position to win. By that, just don't make mistakes keep the team, takes what the defense gives you and offense on schedule
It's incredibly selfless to do that on a game and world where it's all about me and you WANT to win the game and be the star (see Cade Klubnik).

He goes about business and doesn't care about stats, he cares about the W.

He's playing great ball. Throwing it accurately and running for possession saving first downs. Beck is reminding everybody he's clutch and a winner. He just QBed us to wins in brutal conditions against a top ranked D at A&M and against "The best defense in the country" with multiple first rounders. And he navigated the game beautifully.

Don't be surprised if he has a huge game tomorrow.

A lot of these talking heads are pointing to the last two games as proof that Beck and the offense are limited. These same talking heads said that Matt Patricia was a defensive genius and that Ohio State easily was the best defense in the country. If I’m not mistaken we scored more on them than anyone all season.

Posted this yesterday. His stats over the last 6 games are as good as Chambliss.

Last 6 games and defensive effeciency rankings of teams:

Beck vs: Syracuse (#72), NCst (#69), VT (#103), Pitt (#16), A&M (#10) , OSU (#3)
122/158 -77%
1366 yards - 8.65ypa
13 TDs
1 INT

Shambles: South Carolina (28), Citadel (NR), UF (34), Miss St (64), Tulane (52), UGA (15)
143/198 -72%
1796 yards - 9ypa
12 TDs
2INTs

Trinidad is having a good run... But it's not that much, if at all, better than Beck's last 6 games.

And that includes two games from Beck where he barely has to throw the ball and a game for Ole Miss against the Citadel.

By the way, we're 4th in defensive effeciency and Ole Miss is 49th.

Ole Miss is 8th on offense. We're 17th.

Some other offenses we've played and their offensive effeciency rankings:

ND 2, OSU 6, NCst 12, A&M 15

We've played plenty of good offense comparable to Ole Miss including our last 2 games and 3 in our last 6.

They haven't played a defense like ours for months (OU is 6th in defensive effeciency they played in October.)

I agree with OP. The narrative is everywhere, every podcast I listen to, and it is false.

Ole Miss DBs can be had. Don’t be surprised if we lean on Beck a little more this game. If you’re Ole Miss, you gotta be trying to stop the run and make Beck beat you. I think he can.

Seriously. Buddy is a 6th year player with 40+ starts and getting paid handsomely. He needs to win us games if need be

Low hanging fruit for some to talk about our weaknesses

This is what I need to see Carson post when he raises that Trophy next week....

I'm getting fsu game vibes. I can definitely see him scoring 3 touchdowns. Ole miss is out matched on the ground and they'll be forced to load the box similar to the noles and we all know how that turned out.

Impressions are created, rightly or wrongly, not just from total stats but from the timing of plays and games that really stand out. The dreadful Louisville game and the sorry SMU ending influence the Beck narrative. 4 pic games leave a lasting impression.

That said, I have confidence in the guy. I don't think you'll see us go pass crazy this week unless Ole MIss really goes overboard on trying to stop the run. We'll keep mixing it up as we have been.

this is great work

I view qb’s in different lights. Can was the offense when he was here . Everything goes through him and depends on his brain / arm. Beck is the veteran game manager that gets you in the right play then makes the right throw . That’s why we’re winning. He’s now added the “ it’s ok to check it down “ to his game . Less reckless.

We didn’t need the gun slinger Cam type and Beck isn’t that anyways. We have a great OL , run game and good enough wr core. Just be Jalen Hurts with the loaded roster around him. Don’t lose the game.

Now this week we’ll need more than 130-180 yards. Not making the mistake and being conservative won’t cut it . More than likely we need 3-4 total td to win, 27-31 points.

I freaking love when Beck takes those checkdowns. Safe plays that get our guys in a little space and almost always move the chains.
