And you make a good point. I have a feeling the lists that rank Southern states low are based on money being spent on education. We all know that is hardly the be all and end all for good public education.

Pretty much all the "public school ratings" I've seen have Deep South States like Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana -- along with Alaska and Hawaii -- bringing up the bottom of pretty much every list. There's a million ways those lists can be compiled.

Hasn't Trump gone on record as saying Soc Security and Medicare are "safe" under him? Or, did I mishear?

Seems like I've been hearing about Republicans eliminating two or three current Cabinet-level Departments for decades. Maybe it'll finally happen under Trump?? Dept of Education was one.

I'll retract the word "wild." Although, to listen to the Freedom Caucus, any spending, given the debt, is pretty much that.

So ... if Trump is elected agin in 2024, what can we expect? Spending wildly as was the case in his first term, or successfully cutting the budget in a truly meaningful way. He says he won't touch "entitlements," so my money would be on more of the same.

Sweet. By the time I paid that first house mortgage off (early), my rate was like 3%, and had been very low for years. My point was when purchasing that first house in 1980, we wanted and needed it and woulda likely paid as high a rate as we could afford (think rates did go to around 14-15%...

Truth! That new house in 1980 cost me $89,000. Even with the 12.5% interest, think my 30 yr fixed mortgage payment was in the $700-800 monthly range. Today, my Comcast/Infinity bill (Cable TV/Phone/Internet) is a ridiculous percentage of that old monthly mortgage payment.

No Cable TV in the neighborhood I bought in back then (was put in a year later), no brick of a cell phone either. Didn't get a home computer/hookup until 1994 or thereabouts.

First house I bought in 1980, my mortgage rate was 12.5% or thereabouts -- the going rate at the time. Buyers like me didn't think twice about it then.

DJIA back over 33,000 at today's close.
