I was looking at the rosters for North Shore and Katy (Texas). I think North Shore had something like 150 several years running. Maybe Katy, too. They take football seriously in Texas.

Maybe the UM coaches were treating the lunch only with one another as a working lunch. It might have been an opportunity for them to have a meeting mid-day.

Butch had a very open, friendly and engaging personality the one time I met him. And he was already on the Cowboy staff at that point. He was someone you could immediately like. He didn't know me, I wasn't anybody important. But he was open and down-to-earth. I'm sure his good people skills...

And this has been a problem with successive staffs at UM? I remember reading that Shannon let relationships with local coaches deteriorate. How long has this been going on? It sounds like it has been a chronic problem with successive staffs.

A friend mine, a former UM MVP (Harding Award winner) many years ago, has been coaching at a N. Virginia HS team. He rarely calls down to Coral Gables with a prospect. Last year (2018 class) he had a very talented kid who was a late bloomer, a sleeper. We made several contacts with the staff...
