Jimmy’s goal was to coach in the NFL. When his college roommate and friend bought the Cowboys there was no chance to retain JJ. Schnelly won his NC, and was offered a piece of USFL franchise. The team never materialized but hard to compete with that.

True. It took a humiliating 58-0 home loss to Clemson on national TV to fire Golden. Had he lost by 17 or even 21 he would have kept his job through the end of the season and maybe another season. Despite his obvious ineptitude the program needed to hit rock bottom before action was taken...

3? Richt retired without a buyout. His offensive staff was let go, but that was three years ago. Enos might have a had a severance. And I don’t believe Manny is paid more than Richt ($4M).

I remember that comment. He should have repeated it a few times. IIRC, saying something twice is evidence to the NCAA.

Why didn’t the FBI turn this information over to the IRS? I’m sure they’d be interested in a system allegedly paying out millions of dollars, tax-free. Might be called money-laundering as well, but I’m not a lawyer.

Bama is also protected by the powers. Miami would never enjoy such security. And, I don‘t think a payment system could be kept quiet in Miami. The media would look for things to investigate. In Alabama they look away or don’t even bother.

Yes, but Smart letting Fields transfer may have cost him a chance at NC the past two years. Fromm and Daniels were pedestrian compared to Fields.

Rational. But two questions. One, where does Kiffin gets bags in Coral Gables, and two, how do we keep local Miami papers from breaking stories about the bags? The local rags in Bama wouldn‘t dare report anything, but the Herald reporters want to win Pulitzers.

All in, especially if Art Briles can be OC. Put all the chips on the table! #notjoking

Probably just a recent example of a program paying a high price to poach an ‘elite’ coach.

Risk it incrementally. Meaning, improve admin/recruiting budgets and coaching salaries to P5 averages, or just above. Compete, but not $7M HCs. Then, if the program builds invest appropriately.

The top ADs make just over $1M/yr to $1.5M. Except at ND, where he makes $3M.

I wouldnt know, but recall he was referring to general donations to the University, claiming the visibility of the football programs success were key to bringing in the money.

Exactly why all those clamoring for former coaches and players or ridiculous suggestions like Meyer (pre-NFL hiring) are trying to purchase their past. The Next Great Coach fails more often than not. I think Matt Campbell is a good coach, but making Iowa State highly competitive in the Big 12...

Well, Bama‘s President claims the success of the football program brought in $600M+ in donations to the University as a whole. I’ll take his word for it. And yes, spending a fortune does not guarantee success. Michigan hasn’t won big with Harbaugh. TAMU hasn’t shown ROI on paying Jimbo $75M, at...

Agree somewhat. A lot of posters want to hire a guru that guarantees a display case full of trophies, but he doesn‘t exist. What Miami needs is proper funding of the football infrastructure (administrative and recruiting) as well as someone who can judge a quality HC. Yes, you look at record...

This is what the Miami admin does not understand. Miami with an elite football program would bring in $$$MMM of dollars to the University. I‘ve always thought the past public image of Miami, from the 80s through the FIU brawl, scares the BOT. They believe the two are connected, and Miami cannot...

USC pays Helton around $5M/yr. Tops in the PAC12 but average $EC pay. For all their bluster the Trojans are notoriously cheap. They expect coaches to work for less because ‘We are SC’. Also note, they did not fire Helton because they did not want to pay a $20M buyout for him and his staff...

Bummer. If there was a change to be made, and you were AD, who would be on your short list?
