Because we can only recruit kids from Hialeah. FYI, you should go to a seminar to learn about financial aid in college. No one pays full sticker price at a private school. And heaven forbid we find some kids who can get some academic money.

And? Your elite group of travel ball all-stars earned a #2 seed.

    Another comment you can't refute.

So you think Tennessee Tech is the one example in 2018? Someone beating a higher seed happens just once a year?

    Gino

It's not made up. You play against higher or lower seeds throughout the postseason. We haven't beaten a higher seed in 12 years. We haven't beaten a #1 seed in 10 years. Again, when you're not going to be a national seed 80% of the time, you're forced to play higher seeds.

That 11 game winning streak came against the worst part of our schedule. As soon as we played a top 75 team we didn't compete and the streak and season came to a crashing halt.

Well, they can't develop talent now. So, again, maybe a different strategy is in order. They're supposedly bringing in the best players from the best area in the country, but we haven't had a championship contender in nearly two decades.

Are you going on record as saying that it's rare for a team to play above their seed?
  11. Jaromir Jagr

    Gino

It's weird to you because you don't see what an outlier we are to have not beaten a higher seed once in a decade.

We were a national seed twice in the last decade. If we're only going to be the favorite 20% of the time, then the odds say that we should occasionally pull the upset. We don't do that, though. If we are a two seed, we are not winning that regional. If you don't like the idea of having to play...

That's the crazy thing about all this. We have 27 spots in which to give out money, but we couldn't plan ahead to 2017. Couldn't figure out how to make sure that we kept a competitive team on the field. We ended up with a JAG like Brandon Gali getting at bats in D1 games.

One team played out of its mind. The other two teams got to Omaha and shut it down, even though they were supposed to be there. Give me 2006 any time.

    Gino

The 2006 team, which went into the postseason as a #2 seed, won as many games in Omaha as the 2015-16 teams combined. Give me the team that plays better than it is when it counts. 2015-16 went through the motions in Omaha even though they were supposedly a national seed.

We haven't won for two years (short stint). Who can I blame?
  17. Jaromir Jagr

    Gino

I complain and blame the coaches now with the players they recruit, since they don't win. So anything different would be a good start.

The past decade demonstrates this for me.

Yes, based on Perfect Game's rankings. You're agreeing with me. The problem is that relying on Perfect Game gives you a Yonder Alonso clone who hits singles and strikes out a lot.

Funny how "two full classes" and "two straight years in Omaha" are monumental feats, but two years without even making the postseason is a "short stint". So we have only had a "short stint" among top-tier teams in the past decade.
