'You feel the love from every coach', four-star RB Jae Lamar breaks down official visit
Four-star running back Jae Lamar made his way down to Coral Gables this weekend as the only running back on this weekend’s itinerary. A Georgia product who hails from Colquitt County, Miami has a growing relationship with the school as both WR Ny Carr and LB Kamal Bonner applied their trade there.
With Miami commit Javian Mallory visiting Alabama and local top target Derrek Cooper visiting Georgia this weekend, this visit becomes very intriguing with how Miami’s RB room for the 2026 class will shake out.
I caught up with Lamar after his visit and here’s what he had to say:
Highlight from his visit:
“I gotta start with the food. Man, I'm talking about this the visit I ate the most right here. I'm talking about every hour."
"But seriously the players, the recruits that they brought, you know, they’re great young men. I mean, everyone that's been on the visit has been bonding, we all been talking about some things and I mean, it's great down here.”
On his recruitment timeline/process:
“My commitment date is June 25th. I don’t want to just give it away, you know, what I'm doing so I say no comment on that except that Miami is very high.”
“This visit has definitely changed a lot. So, Miami is definitely high on my board.”
“God makes no mistakes, and you never know what he's planned for you.”
(He also added how he will be visiting Georgia next weekend)
On how Colquitt County High products Ny Carr and Kamal Bonner affect his recruitment:
“I got a chance to spend time with Kamal and Ny was gone so I ain’t spend time with him. They said it's different from any other school. And due to the fact that Kamal has been at NC State, he just tells me what’s different about this program, how they do things here, and how know you’re gonna thrive here.”
“Kamal and I are on the phone everyday, like that's my brother.”
On how the staff stands out:
“The feeling the staff provides here, you feel the love from every coach. I feel like that's crucial in the recruitment process.”
“Coach Merritt an upfront dude, ever since I’ve met him he’s been telling me the same things. You know, there’s other coaches that's out here that are lying about a lot of things, but Coach Merritt has kept it 100 from the beginning and I appreciate that.”
