Who was the last linebacker you would consider a star at Miami?

Perryman and Spence - 2nd and 3rd round picks

Beason before that

Yes, today's LBs. You've named one. I've named none. I asked partially because I don't know. I watch a fair amount of games, but I do not watch with more than a fleeting interest unless it's the Canes. It might not be much, but I do have a life. I also asked because I think that particualr skill set - being good/great at both - is really rare. Not like unicorn rare, but still rare nonetheless, and I don't think it's easy to find them. Not that you asked what I thought...
Yes I named one who just happen to be a true freshman, an every-down LBs are not rare, Miami just aint doing a good job at it

Who are the college linebackers who are good/great at both run stopping and pass coverage?
The kid from Notre Dame, Biles at Texas, Chris Cole from Georgia. The real issue isn't Toure and Smith, they are fine. The issue is depth. Look across the top teams:

- Notre Dame plays 4 linebackers
- Ohio State plays 4
- Indiana plays 3
- Georgia plays 4

Marcelin was the third guy against FSU and he played a whopping 14 snaps. Mario seems to know this and is targeting a lot of upper echelon linebackers, but our depth at the position is no bueno.

Star? Probably Beason. Last good LB we've had is Perryman, which is crazy to think about. It's been over 10 years since he last played at Miami.

y'all been talking shvt about our LB play all year. Now y'all scared to take this guy??

Sean Spence is easily the best LB we've had here since the glory days. The fact that we've only had maybe one other guy that stacks up to him in the last 20 years is an embarrasment. The recruiting at LB has been dismal and hasnt changed all that much under Mario

When you have a good thing going with culture, work ethic, building a program around players who do it the right way.....why take the chance to disrupt that with a kid who did the opposite at Auburn? His own teammates going to coaches and ask for something to be done is as big a red flag as one can get. We don't need another Jeff Thomas situation.

The whole "Mario will get him in line" or "Mario won't let him get away with that stuff here" - i would counter with, why would you want Mario to dedicate the time and energy to do that for 1 player? A linebacker is not going to make or break this roster...especially one who supposedly freelances so much (if reports are true). The idea of that is giving me Manny flashbacks with 200 yard rush games.

Should have been Pinckney. He was the last one with serious instincts and playmaking ability. Instead of developing him our coaches gave him a wing stop sponsorship.

Real talk though, Toure is probably our best guy in a long time. When we get that boy playing freely to his strengths hes a demon in the middle of our defense.

We are quick to blame the kids.
Sometimes it’s coaching. Just think how Hester could have gone sideways after what Shannon did to him. I don’t know this kid but I will let the staff do their homework. We are too quick to judge. It could be the environment.
