The People's CRO is back: Jesse Marks on the FSU crowd and $10 hoops tickets
Hard Rock was an asylum Saturday night, so we brought back the guy whose job is filling it, Miami chief revenue officer Jesse Marks, to tell us what the numbers look like and what's coming for Canes basketball.
DMoney: Crazy, crazy atmosphere on Saturday, it was an asylum. I'll give you the chance to brag on our fan base and on some of the objective things we can point to that reflect what I'm seeing, which is huge interest in the University of Miami.
Jesse Marks: Absolutely. The fans brought it on Saturday night. They battled the weather all day and the 'Noles.
I've never heard that stadium as loud. Somebody said the 2017 Notre Dame game, I was at that game too, and I think this was definitely louder. My voice is just coming back from it. It was awesome to see the whole Canes family out there.
I've said this before: there is nothing in the Miami sports world that gets this city going like University of Miami football. We're seeing that right now. We're going to have another great crowd Saturday against Pitt at noon. So shout out to everybody who braved the elements and came out and joined us for a magical night.
DMoney: I don't know how much you can share as far as numbers. But would it be fair to say that all the metrics you track, are showing an increase in interest in this team and everything you guys are doing?
Jesse Marks: Absolutely. Everything from tickets sold, tickets distributed, to the redemption rate of people actually scanning in at the stadium. Everything is up. It's a portrayal of the interest in this program. Everybody is getting behind the Canes, and we need to keep that coming on Saturday and through the rest of the year.
We're going to do our part and make our tickets accessible to the Miami community so people can bring their families.
There will be an offer going out for the Pitt game to honor the 2001 national championship team and also our currently No.1 ranked football team. We want everybody in the South Florida community to experience this memorable season, this football team, and what's about to happen down the road.
DMoney: Switching gears to Canes hoops. Top-15 team, one thing I was wondering as a fan before the season was are there ways we can make some new fans while we have such a good team? You want to strike while the iron is hot and build something that sustains. And sure enough, you guys took action to make sure the community can see this team and maybe build the fan base even more on the basketball side.
Jesse Marks: Yeah, absolutely. Building off the Canes for South Florida initiative presented by Amazon that we launched over the summer, this is another one: the All In campaign for men's and women's basketball, to really make our product accessible to families in the community.
There are going to be $10 tickets for every men's game at the Watsco Center this year. It starts with the women's game against FAU on November 2nd, and those will be $5 tickets. No matter if we're playing ACC games or Wagner on November 6th, $10 gets you in. This is a great opportunity for families to come in and experience Miami Hurricanes basketball. A top-20 team right now that could be a top-10 team shortly.
We have value concessions, five items under five bucks. For Monday through Friday games, there's a happy hour on the concourse an hour before the game with $6 beers and seltzers. And 15 percent off merch at Danny's favorite store, the Hurricane Team Store, if you show your ticket.
After the game we'll have some type of activation, which we'll market as we get closer. Whether it's pictures with Sebastian the Ibis, maybe getting Coach L to come back, maybe some former players if they're able to do it.
DMoney: Last thing, because you are the People's CRO, the most accessible executive at UM that I can remember. How do people with specific questions, maybe something's not working, maybe they're hitting a wall trying to get tickets or trying to do something, who do they talk to?
Jesse Marks: Call 1-800-GO-CANES. Our ticket reps are standing by. If you go on MiamiHurricanes.com, you can schedule a time with a rep on your calendar and they'll call you at that time, so we reach you when you're available.
