Wednesday Recruiting Chatter - 10/10

For Miami, DT is the most important position to recruit every years. They are the essential player for our style of defense and our style of defense is essential for our return to the top. Anyone with doubt just look at the impact of Willis and imagine we have an endless supply of DT clones of him like in the old days. We need to get all we can each year. Everyone one we have is one that we will not see on the other side of the field.

This.

yea played at Temple on the ol

Yes. He was a Golden recruit. Went to Temple to play for Golden, not realizing Al had left three years before. That's where Julio finished his career.

Mistakes do get made.

The guy I'm still looking for is Samson Doyo. I know he posts here but I want to find out where he went. Not easy. Maybe he's still on his Mormon mission. Harder to find than a Greek placekicker.

I hate Satan so much. He's honestly bad for football, there's no parity now with them being so good. I wouldn't hold that against him if a) it wasn't so obvious they cheat their asses off and b) they're incredibly boring to watch (better now with Tua at least). At least dynasties with USC and Miami were awesome to watch with exciting players. Alabama looks like a bunch of robots playing football.

**Miami hosted their first four official visitors of the football season last weekend for the FSU game in WR Jadon Haselwood, DE JJ Weaver, OC Kingsley Eguakun, and OT Darius Washington. I have not heard anything overly positive coming from the player’s respective camps, other than the standard “it was a good visit” you get after every OV. However, the timing of the visits were absolutely crucial for Haselwood and Eguakun in particular and can only be seen as positives for UM. For Haselwood, it was important to establish Miami as a potential leader after his UGA decommitment, and for Eguakun, it was key to stave off the momentum Auburn had been building. Miami feels very good about where they are with these two right now, and I’d have to agree with that. With Weaver and Washington, it’s more of a developing situation, and more must play out before we know where Miami truly stands with those two.

**One player I have heard definitively positive things about that was at the FSU game on Saturday (on an unofficial) was St. Thomas DT Braylen Ingraham. Ingraham has been a very public Miami-lean in the past, but I will say that view has only been strengthened in my mind the past few days, as I’ve continued to hear more good news with him from sources close to the recruitment. It seems the visit this weekend helped to stave off any possible threat that Alabama had been mounting for the 4-star talent, who took an official visit to Tuscaloosa the week before. Ingraham’s decision is in 2 weeks on Oct. 23 and I have no reason to believe the pick won’t be UM.

**High-priority Miami TE target Keon Zipperer has set up a Miami unofficial visit for November 3rd weekend to come watch Miami take on Duke at Hard Rock. While this is still going to be a Miami-UF battle to the end, a source close to the recruitment has the Canes slightly out in front here, and that’s after Zipperer visited UF for the LSU game this weekend. While I’m waiting to hear more good news after his visit in November, I could make a pick for the Canes if overly positive reports come in after the trip.

**I have to say, over the past 2 and a half months, I was getting a little nervous that S Cornelius Nunn had not yet made the flip to Miami. The Miami Palmetto 3-star had his offer reaffirmed by Miami just before Paradise Camp, and I was expecting him to flip in the days following. Yet Nunn has instead been sitting on his hands and sticking with Syracuse, not to mention that all the while, UM still did not have the approval of his mother. However, I have been told by a source close to the recruitment that mom has now been won over and she has given the green-light for Miami, which was in fact the reason for his Syracuse decommitment on Monday. So why hasn’t Nunn publicly committed to UM yet? At least in part because of Nick Saban. Since he decommitted, Alabama got in contact to let Nunn know that his offer was still on the table. While I’m still confident Nunn is all Hurricane, it’s never good to have Alabama involved, because at the very least, possibly playing for Crimson Tide is something you have to stop and think about.

**Another name thrown around Miami circles that also decommitted on Monday was 2020 Pahokee DE Latarie Kinsler, who left Louisville’s class. The 4-star was a frequent visitor to UM’s campus over the summer, making appearances for a Mark Richt summer camp, as well as Paradise Camp, and was close to an outright flip to UM. However, anyone expecting a Kinsler flip at this point might be waiting awhile, as I’ve heard Miami has dropped off contact here and Kinsler is no longer high up on the Canes’ board at DE. Miami is well-stocked at DE in 2020 right now with Samuel Anaele and Elijah Roberts already on board so far in advance of Signing Day. Things could pick up with Kinsler again down the road, but for now, it seems that Miami will focus on Chantz Williams and Jalen Carter (who has always been #1 on the board) from here on out.

**Name to know for 2020: Kahlil Brantley. The Miami Northwestern receiver visited this weekend for the Miami-FSU game and Miami is currently evaluating him for an offer. While receiver is pretty loaded for the 2020 class, and UM already has three 4-star commits in Marc Britt, Bryan Robinson, and Marcus Fleming on board, that’s not stopping UM from taking an interest in Brantley’s athleticism. Miami is actually interested in him on the other side of the ball as a potential striker. Brantley has grown considerably in the past year from his previously listed 6’1” 165, and is now closer to 6’2.5” 195, which is right in the range Miami is looking for in a recruit at that position.

Stefan what’s your opinion at TE it’s obvious we want 2, a pass catching in Zipper and a blocking TE like the kid from Texas. Both we have a shot at but also a good shot of not getting either. Are you aware of any other options? I have a real close friend here in Orlando and his nephew is starting to blow up here in the Orlando area. Kids name is Julius Pierce from Seminole HS and has offers from the FIU and FAUs of the world but recently got some from Louisville, UCF and USF. I know Coach Baez follows him but the kids huge 6’5 250ish right now.

Thoughts on other TEs or the TE situation as far as depth

To be fair, DT is essential for any defense as there just aren’t enough elite guys at the position and having even one makes your defense that much more potent.

I'll give you the robots and cheaters points but disagree on the "bad for football/no parity" complaint. We're all tired of Bama sitting at the top but GTFO with this soccer mom BS

**** of a 2 sport College athlete at Texas Southern.

The Lakers just signed him to their G-League team. No joke.

He was always a kid that I thought would've developed to whatever stage he was on. Kicked *** in the SWAC in 2 sports but that level of development only ended up getting him an NFL camp invite and now essentially a minor league NBA contract. If he had gotten his **** together earlier and then actually felt comfortable leaving Texas as a transfer and not being loyal to Texas Southern there is no telling where that kid would be......but those type of stories ain't exactly unique either.

I believe he was the SWAC player of the year in Football and Basketball and twice for Basketball.

Wonder if brantley could end up playing on defense eventually with that frame?
This kid cleary loves Miami a lot and always reps us I hope he gets an offer down the line but he had time for sure.
He just committed to Utah last night but before that sent this tweet out. Could feel some type of way that he didn’t get an offer yet but they just offered Brinson from northwestern who is in the 2021 class I believe and he doesn’t have one yet. He clearly loves Miami and he’s talented so when the time comes we need to get him

no doubt.

how frickin' obvious does it need to be?

I swear mark emmert has to know what flavor saban's balls taste like.

Little Nicky’s taste like Popeyes fried chicken.

He should be converted to DT in college, ala Sapp.
