So sounding like Lt-Samson, Lg-Sj, C-Rodriguez, rg- congdon, RT-McCoy. Cantwell probably the swing tackle and will play some guard and Buchanan will get reps at guard
Yeah- they’re paying the giant Cantwell $2mm annually to ride the pine or get “spot” duty play time?
You can’t be serious… and what’s your source for this supposed starting online?

I’ll believe it when I see it
They been paying Samson big money for 3 years to not play much until last year. He isn’t going to be riding the bench. He will get reps. And the source is the people who have been watching practice. Listen how they have been talking about Sj. Then look at what 247 said about cantwell. Kid is only a true freshmen coming from a place where he rarely pass blocked and now being asked to play a new position. He might start but if he doesn’t right away it ain’t the end of the world

Do you know what they paid Pancake to come here and “ride the pine”?

Also stop rewriting history here. It wasn't until Fletcher's 3rd year and well into the playoffs he became what we thought he could be. Damien Martinez stole his lunch money in 24. He lost his starting job to Lyle last summer. The job fell to him and he did well early on. We definitely saw a better version of Mark like against USF. He was finally making some guys miss. It took 3 full seasons for Fletcher to reach his potential. And yet here's true freshman Pringle pushing everyone for that starting job at 18. I'm very excited to see some development from Pringle because players do actually get better as per the case with Mark.

So again I said what I said. Pringle is and will end up the best RB on the team. He's already got the vision and speed. Just a little more strength to run thru contact and we are cooking with her fuel here.
smh

the source is david lake at 247 ... they're the second best plug after dmoney ... and others have pointed out, samson got paid to develop for three years ... but carry on

Wonder where specifically the issue is with the pass blocking. Hopefully we don’t regret not hitting OL harder in the portal.
Shouldn't we expect to be worse at all 5 positions to start the year? 4 of last year's starters are on NFL roosters right now. I don't think this is a bad thing. Our pass blocking OL was stacked last year.

Problem with that is he can’t block and if you can’t block, you can’t play. So we’re all hoping he became a better blocker in the off-season because that’s what kept him off the field in the playoffs.
The stupidest thing coaches do regarding Rbs....

Under Mario, RB carries have been 292, 363, 315, 373 (+84 in playoffs). Targets have been 43, 32, 37, 42. So we average 336 carries (25.8/game) and 38 targets (2.9/game) to RBs. Then in the playoffs we averaged 28 carries/game + 3 targets/game. Overall this works out to 374 touches/season to RBs (29/game).

What Should happen:

RB-1A: Fletcher = 100-150 carries: IF he is going to play like he did in the CFP, he is clear RB1 and likely >150 carries. He doesn't provide much as a receiver imo, but he'll probably get like 10 catches. However IF he is going to play like he has in the regular season over his 3 year career, he's more of just a rotational RB1 and should only get like 100 carries. He had 102, 100, and 158 carries his first 3 yrs. And that was with Lyle starting the season and then getting hurt and basically not playing. Given his playoff performance though and how deep our RB room is, I don't think we overload him much, we'll "preserve" him for the playoffs or heavier doses only as needed.

RB-1B: Pringle = 80-100 carries + 25 targets:

RB3 is open rotation/competition between Lyle, Brown, and Mallory, where Lyle and Brown get the age+exp tiebreaker over Mallory if everything is close/equal. There are about 120-150 carries to go around. Lyle if he is suspended will obviously affect his carries number, however regardless how he has actually performed in 2 seasons - which is bad - Staff clearly loves him. And after all he was starter Game 1 last yr. I'd expect > 80 Carries for Lyle. Mallory will get 25-50 carries (think Lyle as a Frosh in 2024). And then Brown will get the remaining.

Maybe so but not $2 mill

It’s all relative. It was an ungodly amount at the time and in 7 figures. And they kept paying him to stay despite knowing he wasn’t going to start as a sophomore.

With how much Dmoney has been talking about mallory it wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up rb2. Lyle might’ve lost his snaps to him, he’s probably better in pass pro than pringle and based on his hs tape he’s a good receiving back too but idk how that has transferred over

Pringle may be the best pure runner but if the oline isn’t great in pass pro then it will become even more important for the rbs that play. Id imagine fletch/marty/lyle/mallory are all ahead of pringle in that area which will make it tough and probably why we haven’t heard as much about him

Gaby mentioned tonight it seemed like the following have secured spots on OL:

Samson - LT
Rodriguez - C
Big Ben - 1 guard spot

Biggest thing was he didn't say McCoy was locked in at RT. Said he is still taking guard reps and Cantwell RT reps (I know we cross train)

He said SJ may get a guard spot.

Seems like their will be open competition into the season at LG between sj and cantwell

Seems like to me they’re hoping cantwell has a breakthrough at tackle, if he does then there could be moving pieces everywhere else
