CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football program announced Sunday that it has accepted a bid to the 2019 Walk-On's Independence Bowl and will take on Louisiana Tech at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La.
The game will be aired live on Dec. 26 at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN, 560 WQAM and Unanimo Deportes.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the Walk-On's Independence Bowl," Director of Athletics Blake James said. "The bowl's staff and the people of Shreveport always put on a terrific show for the visiting teams and this promises to be a fun experience for both our student-athletes and our fan base."
Miami's appearance in the 2019 Walk-On's Independence Bowl marks the 43rd time in school history the Hurricanes have competed in a bowl game and seventh straight year in which the Hurricanes will compete in a postseason game; Miami owns a 20-22 overall record in 42 previous bowl games.
Miami's matchup with Louisiana Tech (9-3, 6-2 C-USA) represents the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools and the first head-to-head contest since 2004; UM carries a perfect 4-0 all-time record into the game.
The Hurricanes' appearance in the Independence Bowl is the second in program history; Miami lost, 24-21, to South Carolina in the 2014 Independence Bowl.
The Hurricanes (6-6, 4-4 ACC) saw their last bowl win come in the 2016 Russell Athletic Bowl over West Virginia, 31-14, on Dec. 28, 2016.
