Miami has officially landed one of the top talents in the Sunshine State, signing four-star defensive edge rusher Asharri Charles.
A 6-foot-2, 230-pound edge rusher from Venice, Florida, Charles has one of the best motors in the class — racking up 24.5 sacks and 205 tackles over his past two seasons where his Venice team won the 7A state championship.
This season was no different, racking up 13.5 sacks and havoc everywhere he went.
What stands out about Charles is his combo rush ability, able to win with both speed and power whenever the situation commands it. He does whatever it takes to blow up plays, consistently fighting through blocks and getting the job done. He's both explosive and twitchy in film, a guy I see really succeeding quickly at the next level.
The power is clear with the way he plays and in the weight room, power cleaning 360 pounds as seen below.
He was part of the visiting group this weekend (6/20 - 6/22), where I spoke with him following his visit:
“They showed me their schemes and –[Hetherman’s] a good d-coordinator, he knows his stuff – I love his schemes
as It's simple down to where you ain't gotta think too much, just play vertical, and then they like to set up one on ones for their best pass rush guys,” said Charles.
Charles will fit right in with the “swarm” reputation the Hurricanes have developed under defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman.
