After Thomas jumped to FSU and Kirkland to Arkansas, Golden put all his chips in bringing in recruiters, starting with James Coley. They identified some decent talent. The cupboard is thin but not bare. The only problem was they couldn't coach or game plan a lick. So here we are with a team that has some ballers like Kaaya and a real staff that knows how to win.

If this defense is beating our offense we're gonna be in good shape. Theres only 2 offenses MAX on our scedule who are as good or better then ours. I can tell in Richts voice he thinks this D is gonna be **** good. This kool-aid is ******* tasty boys. Have a glass!!!!

Man this defense is gonna be all that

I'm also very excited to see the defense play in this new scheme. I'm cautiously optimistic. We may not have elite depth but the guys slated to get the most burn are very good players or have elite potential. The thing to note with this defense is that the DL is the strongest unit. I believe coach Kool said that he believes this line has elite talent. An elite DL will take a defense a long way while masking a multitude of weaknesses.

Defense usually always win the first few days in pads.

If Colbert does win the other CB job, does Redwine have the speed to keep up with the slot?

Jenkins is going to make himself alot of money this year....

At this point, I would probably have Colbert in the driver's seat in terms of winning the #2 CB job. To answer your question on Redwine, no he doesn't have the type of speed or game that translates to slot CB. IMO Elder will see a lot of snaps as the nickel back as well as Jaquan Johnson. Malek Young may also see time at nickel if he is up to it.

Is our Defense playing so well a concern that our Offense just isnt up to snuff? Or is it that our Defense is just that good? We can't rant and rave about how good our Defense is playing, but if they are practicing against a sub-par Offense of course they'd look good.

Fingers crossed that's not the case and we have another smash-mouth defense again! GO CANES.

At our peak, our offenses could do nothing against our defense -- mind you those same offenses destroyed college football.

I couldn't agree more. And I hope that is the case in the near future too!

Historically, even with all our great teams, the defense was almost always ahead of the offense at this point in fall camp
