Should we have let Gore go to one of those schools? How about when Jimmy seen a player in the locker room reading a book and saying "you came here to play football. If you wanted an education you should have went to Stanford". Louisville, Marshall, WVU? How about Bama and Lsu? How have they done lately? When the last time Stanford won a national championship?

You make a couple exceptions a year. It goes a long way. See Kelvin Benjamin as someone mentioned.

You really don't have a clue.

I asked for facts. Tell me what K. Benjamin's test scores and grades were. Tell me what FSU's requirements are and how they differ from UM's. IIRC, Benjamin was first committed to UF, right? Why didn't he go there...are their requirements too high also?

Bama hasn't taken anyone that couldn't get into UM.

Gore was let in because he had a certified learning disability and was able to get help at UM. These other kids don't have learning disabilities...they're just lazy ****s in the classroom.

Hey Britney, stop getting ur panties in a bunch. Ask Dmoney about Benjamin's grades. I'm clueless? http://www.cbsnews.com/news/fsu-athletes-in-academic-scandal/ . Yea, FSU makes sure to put academics over football. Or is that ancient history, and they have made a change?

If u think Rolondo McClain would have stayed eligible at Miami, theirs no point continuing this argument.

Show me facts these kids are lazy ****ers in the classroom. Show me facts they don't have a learning disability. Show me facts that you would call Wyche a lazy ****er anywhere but behind a keyboard. Gtfoh.

Yes, you're clueless, Nancy.

WTF does cheating in an online music course at FSU have to do with their academic entrance requirements for football players? Zip. Zilch. But thanks for playing.

Hey buddy, u win.

BTW, Rolando McClain had a 3.1 GPA in HS. Wouldn't have had an issue getting him into UM if he wanted. But please, tell me more about how he couldn;t get into UM.

Some people just can't wrap their brains around Miami being a school

Not saying you but other fans shouldnt complain if we arent elite again. U gotta choose whats more important school or winning titles. BCS title that is..........if your a school guy then like 8 to 9 win seasonsn dont bytch period. Nerds do not win national titles or well spoken kids, they gotta let some get in to be UM again. My Opinion.......should i b wrong than Ill take t it, so far I feel right. last8 to 9 titles r not nerd schools.

You've stepped into a new realm of moran with this one.

What the **** was Jonathan Vilma if he wasn't a nerd?

Ever heard any of those offensive linemen speak?

Antrel Rolle was an academic all-american

There's so much fail in this post. Not to mention the implication that our National Championship teams were full of morons.

I say that there should be a fair trade. If we lower the admission requirements for the football team, I say we up the IQ requirements for canesinsight, thus eliminating troglodytes like yourself.

Good Day.

Ok uwin........seriously though its good to bring **** like this to the table, so people that thinks its grades can see the light. Thx jerz.......im being serious. I admit i wasw rong. I really cant argue what u put there except the troglodyte stuff.

If you remembered this dude from Scout then you already know he's a closet Noles slurper.. I remember his avatar picture.. Couldn't stand the site of his face and hat to the side..

Oops.. my fault.. I'm thinking out loud again.

Couldn't help but follow this thread. Some very good points being raised.

First I say a very lost comment along the lines of " If they can't get into Miami they can't get into LSU " That is absolute rubbish ! LSU will take anyone who gives them a legitimate shot to win Their ultimate exposure went by the name of Ricky Jean-Francois. Those who HAVE LONG FOLLOWED SOFLA recruiting will remember that story....his recruitment and his time at LSU.

Clueless comments that Miami wants to be the "Harvard of the south" are just that...clueless.

If a kid is too lazy and becomes swell-headed because a recruiter tells him " No you don't have to take any extra classes , we can work with what you have" then you walk away. If you want to play for Miami but don't care enough to TRY HARD to qualify ...go to Marshall. Before you go after the staff check on the kids who didn't want to try to qualify...and went elsewhere . Check out suspensions for detrimental conduct, academic suspensions, eventual dismissals from teams, arrests..etc.

Academic "exceptions" are just that....EXCEPTIONS. Something applied very infrequently ..and not used every year to shuttle in lazy knuckleheads.

For those of you who snicker because a poster used the example of Stanford as a team where you recruit academics and football ability........Joaquin Gonzales says "Hi".

Grade requirments will keep UM where it is

How does Stanford do it?

Call me when there at bama or fsu level..........im talkin multiple 1st rounder and titles not just being a good team.

I assure you it has nothing to do with the grade requirements. It's funny that your handle is DWinstitles because your handle should be LOWERINGgraderequirementswinstitles.

How does West Virginia do it with lower grade requirements than Bama/FSU.

How does Stanford do it?

Do what? How many championships have they won? Our grade requirement's puts us at a disadvantage and continues to make Miami miss out on some top talents.

How many championships did we miss out on because of our grade requirements? How many championships did WVU win with the lowest grade requirements?

The answer is ZERO to both.

Stop what? Am I lying? We have missed on plenty of athletes that have gone elsewhere due to our grades requirement.

No your just being stupid.

I swear, if we lose Wyche AND Valentine due to academics and they make it into somewhere else, I'm done with this school. Sick of this ****.

I know, right? How dare a university set reasonable (actually really freaking ridiculously low) academic requirements and not allow someone in who doesn't meet those requirements. Blame the school, not the kid!

With the way DT recruiting has gone, and our awful d, you make the exception for TWO freaking players. You want to play with big boys, or you want to continue to suck ***? TWO players! Is that going to tarnish your precious universities academic achievements that much? If they don't care about football enough to allow TWO players to slide, then why should we?

Dude, are you seriously this dumb? LMAO at this crap. What about asking the **** kids to take some personal responsibility? If they don't care enough about getting into UM to get a ****ing 2.0 average and some low-*** test score, why should I give a crap about that dumbass kid?

You can't just make exceptions for 2 players. What happens next year, if we have a big need at OL? Then you want to lower it for 2 or 3 more players next year. And the year after that, you'll be whining about not letting in 2 WRs or RBs or LBs.

And tell me something...how many championships does Louisville and Marshall and WVU have?

Should we have let Gore go to one of those schools? How about when Jimmy seen a player in the locker room reading a book and saying "you came here to play football. Another retarded post. First the only school winning champs on your list is Bama. LSU hasn't won since 2007 (i.e. 6+ years ago)

Second, Bama isn't winning champs because of their lower grade requirements. They are winning because of coaching, recruiting and player development. Those are what wins championships. WVU and Marshall have lower grade requirements than Bama and neither has done anything relevant in football.

Third, the reason people bring up Stanford and ND is because they have higher academic institutions but are still having success. ND made the Champ Game last year and Stanford has played in 4 straight BCS games and have won 46 games during that time. We are aware that these schools have not won champs recently (not that Louisville or Marshall or WVU has) but they are still having great success with their HIGHER academic standards.

Finally, it is not the academic standards that are keeping these recruits out of Miami. It is the recruit and their poor grades keeping themselves out of Miami.

I havent read all thru this thread but...

People talking about Stanford versus UM recruiting are wasting their efforts IMO. The dynamic is completely different. Stanford gets elite level academic kids who also happen to be good football players. They go to Stanford FOR ACADEMICS and also play football. NO kid is making that choice for UM. NONE OF THEM.

As a non-UM alum I try to tread lightly when the discussion of UM's recent academic rise comes around here. That said, its fair of me to point out that UM's recent rise in the academic standings (since Donna's arrival) is a nice tool for recruiting but dont fool yourselves into thinking that UM is a top 50 academic university FROM A HISTORICAL STAND POINT. It is not. And its that historical standpoint that leads kids from elite academic families towards certain universities.

Again, I applaud Donna's efforts in utilizing her political base to get UM listed as most top 50 academic lists but at the end of the day, they are light years beneath the academic standing of a skool like Stanford. (cue the Spicoli voice) "Not even close, BUD!"

If UM wants to compete for a national title they have to do what other teams will do. Not only did we lose RJF to LSU we also lost Ali Highsmith who became an all-American for LSU. Next thing Patrick Peterson is going to LSU. Really a redneck college like LSU stealing our recruits. You would think our administration is smarter than theirs.

Teams like Louisville, Ohio St, LSU and even Stanford will let these borderline kids in. South Florida schools are not the best in the country so they will be full of border line kids. Those local kids are the same kids that have help build this UM team. The team of the 80s and five NC titles was not built on scholar athletes.

Brandon Linder says hi. He went to Miami because it has one of the top Marine Science programs in the country.

So, you're saying that UM is only ranked top 50 because of Donna's "political base"??? That's a crock of *****. Donna's political base has nothing to do with all of the metrics used by USNWR to rank schools.

Chad Thomas didn't pick UM for their music academics? Hmmm

Bernie Kosar graduated in 3 years. Ken Dorsey was an excellent student, as was Russell Maryland and countless others. A lot of our most 'famous' players were excellent students and true "scholar athletes". Yeah, so, you're wrong.

Your one attempted example is cute and all, but the crux of my take is still accurate. Stanford is an elite academic institution that stands above all but a few universities on the planet. UM is a johnnie come lately to the US News and World Report Top 50.

If you dont think it was Donna Shalala who got UM on those lists I dont think we'll have much to discuss on this subject. It's who she is. Appearance is everything in her world. Im not saying that US News amended their metrics, Im saying that Donna managed to their metrics. That's how she rolls.

SF...are ya telling me that it's all smoke and mirrors ?

Look, I understand the gist of your argument but you must concede the fact that the rise is not based on manipulation of the contents that make up the ratings. Miami's Law,Finance/International finance, Business/ Int'l Business ,Music , Medicine, Marine Biology ..and quite a few other programs are some of the best.

No Coral Gables is not Stanford no one said that it is nor did anyone attempt to put them in the same neighborhood . Still Miami is not some scrub school that it's President greased a few palms of granted a few favors in exchange for a top-50 status.
